Why does the English football world always over estimate their place in the world and ingnire their obvious failings. I hope it is Spain/Portugal. Best stadia, best infrastructure and biggest crowds I would suggest. |

Ah, but England invented football. And they're passionate about it. Hence they deserve it. I hope it's in Spain... Edit: It's in Russia. 2022 in Qatar. Weird. |

Emotional stuff from the Qatari representative. I think it is a fantastic decision to have the WC in the middle east. It has the potential to greatly assist the integration of the Arab world and hopefully breakdown some barriers. Some may say I'm a dreamer. |

It is part of their natural DNA, every sporting event they enter it is the same. |

The slave labour they'll use from India to help build the stadia will also help to keep costs down. I wonder if the 2022 World Cup will still have an official beer?

No objection to Russia getting it, it is a big country where Football is the number one sport and it should be a big occasion. ( they will have to make it easier for foreigners to get visa's to attend though, there immigration service is still stuck in the brezhnev era) However Qatar only has a population of 1.6m and half of them are expats on work visa's it is total stupidity for a country that size to build 12 large stadiums for a world cup (10 of them are planned to be within 30km radius of doha). I know that after the world cup the the plan is that the stadiums are going to taken apart and given to third world countries but still just seems a complete farce, where are the fans going to come from? (maybe the emir make attendance compulsory for every resident) and will the countries infrastructure be able to accomodate hundreds of thousands of visiting fans in such a small area. Sure they have lots of money to make it work but 2022 is a long way away what if the price of petrochemicals takes a big drop by then. Anyway I'm sure the Qatari team that plays in world cup 2022 will be made up of Brazilian's and not this dude http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/world-.../article/24271/ |

Giving the World Cup to a country where homosexuality is illegal is certainly sending out a nice message. Still, it's lucky that not one of the many thousands of professional footballers worldwide are gay. |

Fifa is, and always has been, corrupt. The only surprise is that anyone is surprised. This is a good read for the uninitiated. |

I think in both cases being selected as world cup venues will help to promote the introduction of more widely acceptable laws. All part of the normalisation process which will allow Coca Cola, Starbucks and McDonal's to continue their quest for world domination. |

Hmm, Qatar. One of Iran's allies. No wonder Obama is pissed off. As for England, it's quite funny really. £15m spent (David Dein does 90,000 miles trying to secure votes). And they end up with 1 foreign vote - assuming the Englishman voted for his own country. |
