Interesting angle on this guy that I'd never really thought about.

OK, let's not beat around the bush. :)

Who here has ever bought a Playboy? For the articles, to support their stand on freedom of speech, or to wank over pictures of tits. Whichever.

Do they even sell them anymore? Not that I've ever bothered looking.

I think buying these types of magazines must be a thing for the older generation? For us younger generation we were blooded on soft-porn on the "new channel 5" and once we learned how to delete Internet History/Forms/Cookies, the hardcore stuff took over and led onto the affordability of personal computers and free hardcore porn on YouPorn, RedTube, PornHub etc.

Wanking over a glossy picture of pair of tits? Good heavens my man, this is the 21st century!

So I had a look and, you know, it ain't bad. Solid articles on North Korea and JFK. A good piece about consumer bank runs (in the same month Cantona has the idea; hm). Interviews with Robert Downey Jr and Zach Garafafafafalathing. Fiction by Jim Caroll. A balanced op-ed about Apple owning content. Some passable polemic in the "modern life is rubbish" genre. There was a lot to read -- a hell of a lot more than Esquire or GQ. I'd probably buy it for plane journeys if the editorial didn't feature women in the nip.

But yes, there are tits and the odd fleck of hair, though not that often. The first pictorial's on page 56. Comfortingly, the ladies are much as they were when I was 14, and had some very unrealistic ideas about pubic topiary. They're presented the same way as they look: like a fantasy, imaginary species that exists on a parallel plane to the readers. It all seems more palatable than those weekly ladmag things called Nuts or Jugs that are all about "here's a barmaid's tits and by the way all girls are gagging for cock." I doubt anyone's felt rapey after reading Playboy.

What do 14-year-olds watch now? Internet porn, I guess, just like the rest of us. Real lumpy women getting spatchcocked. And once they put aside the sports sock they probably don't read Norman Mailer essays about Vietnam. The passage of time has made Playboy look a pretty good option for kids. I'd be all for putting it on the National Curriculum.

(Note: I read the US version. The UK one may just be Loaded with added chuffpipes for all I know.)
