Have you seen some of the spelling howlers on the BBC Sportscotland website. McInnes is "aggreaved" while Houston thought we served up some fine "fair" today at Tannadice. Is the journalists' strike on again or has Prick Young been left in charge?

Until I read the actual content, I was ready to edit the thread title.

Even now, I'm tempted, it's so wrong....

Maybe the BBC arent' still on strike...

I'm sure the SPL used to be called the fine fare league back in the 80's ahh nostalgia.

was finefare an 80's supermarket?

Coopers Fine Fare to be precise which, as I recall, merged with Templetons and then ultimately Presto before morphing into Safeway. I may have missed a transitional period as Wm Low in the evolution.

Sounds about right. My childhood aim was to be able to afford the own-brand crisps from Templeton/Fine Fare/Presto.

It's hard to underestimate some of the folk BBC Scotland recruit, from entry level all the way up.

I'm not so confident in your history of Scottish groceries. I feel more that Fine Fare begat Gateway which in turn begat Somerfields.

Presto and Fine Fare, I'm fairly certain, co-existed in Glenrothes Kindgom Centre for a number of years in the early to mid 80s.

I have to agree with Conan - certainly in my corner of Glasgow - Fine Fare turned into Gateway, whilst the Presto in Giffnock stood defiant until they were taken over by Safeway.

That, I think, is accurate. Fine Fare was bought by Gateway, which was the chosen vehicle of Frank Dee's "The Dee Corporation" (heh), which was the father of Somerfield.

As for BBC spelling mistakes: couldn't give a f*ck really.

Well, when I was growing up in Moray, the Presto store definitely became a Fine Fare, or maybe the other way round. Don't suppose it means they were the same company, though. I wasn't too interested in the finer details of corporate premises aged 8.

And according to the BBC reports today, there is a place in the Scottish Football Hall of Fame for "former Dundee United midfielder" Dave Narey....
