How about 'Eggy's Law';

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of Eggman using the words 'semantic' or 'semantics' approaches 1.

Sounds good, after a small revision.

Surely that's all semantics though.

(Shows you what happens when you copypasta from Wikipedia...)

Depends what you mean by semantics.

OK, found some logic/lateral thinking problems on the web - labeled "Semantics":

A police officer sees a truck driver clearly going the wrong way down a one-way street, but does not try to stop him. Why not?

The truck driver is carrying a gun and three hostages, the police officer is off duty, the truck driver on foot, and it's all a dream.

I've probably missed the point, I give up arguments as soon as semantics are mentioned.

You can't walk "the wrong way" down a one-way street, so if that's the intended answer the question is flawed. Streets, to my knowledge, are not one-way for pedestrians, so the use of "wrong" connotes that the lorry driver's in a lorry. It's therefore more logical to suggest that the circumstances are such that the policeman has disregarded conventional traffic laws for the greater good. Traffic laws are reasonably low in the criminal hierarchy anyway, so the possible answers are limitless. For example, perhaps the truck was on fire and was driving away from a fireworks factory staffed by orphans.

As "guessed" by Naebody, the correct answer is that he was on foot.

Just seen this. There are a load of possible answers (and objections) I suppose, some of which Set and Naebs have pointed out.

More teasers from that website?

OK, since you ask.

Quick answers for this one, please:

Cathy has six pairs of black socks and six pairs of white socks in her drawer.

In complete darkness, and without looking, how many socks must she take from the drawer in order to be sure to get a pair that match?

Unless they're already matched up in the drawer.

Which they should be.

What's she wearing?

Three.

She's wearing nothing but lacy leggings, a straw vest, an ankle-length pandaskin winter jacket, Abercrombie and Fitch hotpants, BHS-ripoff Doc Martins, a Supergirl cape, 3-inch studded collar with matching ankle cuffs, a sleek silk evening gown, and her granny's tea cosy on her head. And one sock. In her gob.

Yeah, but I can't be bothered most of the time. And my english is terrible.

It's like a science argument when people start throwing research papers around that no-one's actually read or understood in an attempt to win the argmument.

OK, well done Ivan & findus. Before you give each other a warm hand-off, bear in mind this one was from the "very easy" section. And findus took rather a long time to answer. And neither of you explained your answers.

So, here's a more difficult one:

A king wants his daughter to marry the smartest of 3 extremely intelligent young princes, and so the king's wise men devised an intelligence test.

The princes are gathered into a room and seated, facing one another, and are shown 2 black hats and 3 white hats. They are blindfolded, and 1 hat is placed on each of their heads, with the remaining hats hidden in a different room.

The king tells them that the first prince to deduce the color of his hat without removing it or looking at it will marry his daughter. A wrong guess will mean death. The blindfolds are then removed.

You are one of the princes. You see 2 white hats on the other prince's heads. After some time you realize that the other prince's are unable to deduce the color of their hat, or are unwilling to guess. What color is your hat?

Note: You know that your competitors are very intelligent and want nothing more than to marry the princess. You also know that the king is a man of his word, and he has said that the test is a fair test of intelligence and bravery.

Well, if they've been given white hats then we've probably all been given white hats.

The other two guys are overanalysing it.

The black hats are probably for the executioner and the chauffeur.

Plus, it's a wedding so asking the potential grooms to all wear white hats would make sense. Wearing a black hat a wedding, particularly a royal wedding is a terrible faux pas.

3 hats unknown, 2 black and 1 white possible.

2/3 black, say and get lucky
