I said at the time (v Hamilton game chat) that his ego would probably get in the way of jumping rather than being pushed. That and some cash perhaps.

Outside bet of Levein taking over in the summer? <_<

Will be glad to see McGhee get the sack, he's all talk, no action.

Have you forgotten you're a Dundee United fan? Aberdeen - different team entirely. If you ask me, he's got the Talk to Action ratio just right.

Did you see Duff's goal on Scotsport? F*cking belter, should never have let him go. Thats what I always said. I always said that. Always.

Always.

I prefer the Skobvdal left of no talk and no action to be honest.

And kerr's bound to be homesick around now, so we could do a double reunion.

Still on this game, was I the only one that saw the anti-poppy banner and thought 'good for you'?

Seems I must be in league with the devil for daring to question the glorification of the pointless deaths of millions of young men.

I've taken that very line over on EFF and received a good old roasting for it.

I do accept the point they made there that the Celtic protest was nothing to do with a will for peace and more a poorly proofread cry for attention and dumb republicanism though.

Most of the time if you even murmur a question about the poppy issue, you'll be looked at like you're scum.

I don't even bother suggesting it's not black and white.

Every year seems the same, they moan about the poppy on their strip etc. I don't mind what they say or protest about, sure worse things have been said at games.

I'm sure they like the attention as well though.

It's a ridiculous fuss, which I'm sure is why they did it in the first place.

I don't agree with the sentiment, but I don't think it's offensive or something the Celtics should be either held responsible for or have to ban.

ETA: Seems I've just said what Setenza said in the previous post. Still, one more post-notch on my A-League bedpost. Like a sympathy shag for old times sake with an ex just to cheer her up - it still counts as 1, right?

This pretty much nails my feelings on the Poppy appeal, though I still give my pound and I still wear the badge. Remembrance is mandatory whatever stripe you are, and the British Legion deserves support in spite of the unbelievably boneheaded decisions its management keep making.

As for the banner, I note it was a protest only that Celtic players were wearing the emblem. While there should be "no bloodstained poppy on our Hoops," it was no issue for opposition teams to "shame all the devils in Hell." You don't have to be DS Mirsky to identify the subtext here, and that subtext is odious.

I would gladly commemorate and contribute to those who fought to keep the world free from Nazism. All other wars I cannot support and, in my admittedly unfashionable opinion, non-conscripted soldiers who are killed in conflict are largely responsible for their demise.

To honour the needlessly slain with military ceremonies celebrating the very misguided ventures that killed them is perverse. The military should be kept well away from Rememberance Day.

Very well put, and that sums up my stance better than I could have.

Different coloured poppies would be useful. I'd wear one that was, say, green, and signified remembrance for Second World War troops only. If you wanted to specifically state Falklands, it could be blue (it was a Tory war, after all). If you wanted to state Aghanistan it could be purple. Or if of course you want to give your support for them all combined, then the basic red one would suffice.
