People in prison are not allowed to vote at the moment. That might be changing soon. The ones that do cummunity service order can vote so why not give a vote to prisoners.

Here's what Daily mail thinks

and this is the guardian

I have no problem with prisoners being allowed to vote. And I do find it odd people complaining about prisoners perhaps getting the vote when they don't even use theirs.

I'm neither up nor down on this one. I suppose there's a good legal reason for it but equally I'm not convinced that it's unfair to suspend someone's right to vote whilst their liberty is suspended.

I might dig out the ECHR judgement if this thread kicks off in one direction or another but until then I don't really care.

Let them vote. It's not like we don't have released fraudsters, thiefs, cheats, liars, crazed murders voting anyway. And it's not like some of the people they are voting for aren't fraudsters, thiefs, cheats, liars either.

No crazed murderers though, right?

I have mixed feelings about this one. I can't decide whether I think they should be denied the vote whilst they are incarcerated or banned from voting while they are in prison.

At first i was against it but then i thought what about the criminals that don't get jailed. How come they are allowed to vote. Surely either you ban all criminals from voting or you let them all vote.

What's the argument against prisoners having a vote? I've never really understood this one. Are prisoners supposed to feel really annoyed about not being able to vote?

I'd certainly give them the vote. They've got first hand experience of so much more of the services the state runs, their opinion should be valued.

It was Slabour that first brought tv's into prisons. The prisoners have to pay for the tv's if you read to the bottom.

I hope they have to pay a TV licence too then...

But anyway:

Okay, I let the first one go but are you seriously suggesting removing tvs from prisoners?

I'll show you my cards: that's f*cking mental.

Nah, more removing green emmission targets.

I'm never bothered about the 'treats' prisoners get that people complain about, more important to try to stop them making return trips.
