so that the only lasting form of achievement is to create memes

Go "Smirky's Law"!

Explain?

Smirky's Law

On reflection, I may have misspoken about the idea of memes, I grant you, and I can see the irony in the way I've used it, but I'd suggest there was no instance in my post of correcting anyone's grammar or spelling, so fail to see how - even if I've misspelled something in the sentence which I can't see - Smirky applies here.

Err, isn't Smirky's Law a meme? Nascent, I grant you.

I wasn't invoking it, just plugging it.

This is all very amusing. To hell with you, findus, for providing me with more material with which to waste my time on this planet.

I'll take that as a compliment

I ding-dong between seeing 'internet time' as a complete waste of time while there's other (better) things I could be 'getting on' with, and the realization that life ultimately has no meaning anyway so I might as well be blase about something that brings me some enjoyment while I'm flipping around in this soup of futility. I'm currently 'pretty annoyed' (Annoyance Threat Level Yellow) that I'm here merely as a vehicle for my genes, but that too is a ding-dong battle.

Ah, but Dawkins in 'The Selfish Gene' points out that your genetic input to even your own genetic line a mere five generations on is almost negligible (at 1/32nd by that stage if my feeble maths is up to it) so that the only lasting form of achievement is to create memes, or something lasting. Shakespeare's line died pretty quickly after he did, but echoes of his mind live on in every one of us. Which is pretty damned neat when you think of it.

Indeed, which really underlines the meaningless nature of existence, except to be a temporary Olympic genetic-torch-bearer of sorts.

As for Shakespeare (and memes in general), when he (they) too disappears from consciousness eventually (~100% of the denizens of the universe have never heard of him in the first place, nor has he had any effect on their lives), he'll be in good company alongside the formerly very famous whatshisname and the incredibly talented whosherface, bastards that they were.

Who's up for a game of Jelly Battle?

Self-evaluation for strategies?
