That's an impressive ratio of own goals we score. And Darren Dods isn't even on today. It's going to be a long season isn't it? |

Still seems like we're not quite right througout, but still, they're a decent side, so not the worst result. As long as we don't score more og next game. |

Doesn't sound like we were likely to score, but listening to it on the radio brings another bugbear to mind: the commentators say 'we're just into the last 30 seconds' as United wind up the long throw, but the ref allows a subbie: after which approximately ten seconds are played. What chance do we have when refs reward time wasting in such a blatant way? Anyway, United are struggling without the wingers and with no competition for places up front. Well, who saw that coming...? |

I noticed that too. Refs get a lot of unjustified stick for doing an impossible job, but this kind of basic fcukup doesn't do their cause any favours. Seriously, how hard can minimum 1:00+0:30 be? |

Aye, we were pish today. Started badly with Severin playing a loose ball on the halfway line, Motherwell clean through, Dillon did well to delay long enough for some cover to get back, shot from wide, good save from Pernis, bundled in by Severin (pretty sure it was Severin). Thereafter we were pish until we got the penalty (check the highlights, now that's a deliberate handball). After that we were marginally the better side without having any particular cutting edge. Far too much space for the Motherwell no.7 out wide, fired in a low hard cross and turned it at the back post. Then it all fell away. Good observation on the injury time. The ball was blootered out the park and while they sent a wee laddie away to get it Motherwell bring on a sub. I reckon the ball was in play for less than 5 seconds in injury time. Not hugely significant though since we were never going to get an equaliser. Goodie was excellent today. Pernis good. Buaben, Kenneth, Dillon and David Robertson fair to middling. The rest very disappointing. Barry Douglas was terrible on the left wing (replaced Conway after 20 minutes or so). I'd blame Houston for that though, the guy is never a winger. Daly won a few more in the air than of late but contributed nothing else. Jonny Russell (a left footed striker bear in mind) came on at right midfield. Cadamarteri (who would have improved left mid, right mid and centre forward) stretched his hamstrings on the touchline. We were very lucky to be in the game when it went to 1-1 but we got a grip after that and should have pushed on. Instead, inertia reigned. An opportunity lost. I'm sure we'll bounce back when Conway and Swanson are both fit and available but I worry that we don't have much in the way of a plan B when either are not. At least I've got Fallout New Vegas and some Stella Artois to cheer me up. |

It does seem a little to be lasping into we'll just put a decent team out and hope for the best. I'm never sure if we deliberatly play long balls to Daly often, or if it's just players taking the easy option. We don't seem to have attacking full backs either these days except in patches. |

I think the fullbacks are probably let down the players in front of them. Dixon's a much better player with Conway in front of him, making space. The most frustrating thing for me is that we do have options available (albeit not as many as you'd hope for) but Houston seems determined not to use them. Cadamarteri can do a good job on either wing, Russell by all accounts can play left wing. After we equalised today the game changed and Motherwell had to push forward more. It looked to be crying out for a bit of pace up front and yet Houston waits for Motherwell to go ahead again before making a change (by which time the opportunity had been missed as Motherwell were able to sit back again). I don't get it. |

Pretty poor today, Motherwell were the better side. That's the end of our glorious away run. If there was more injury time og might have got a hat trick. Pretty pathetic United support today almost as many United fans in the disabled section as behind the goal. Another thing Kenneth at throw ins what's the point, he's shite at them. One throw in he passed it about 5 yards . I don't know how good their goalie is as we didbn't trouble him much. |

... At a price. I thought it was an open secret that we can't afford Cadamarteri's appearance bonus. As noted, most of us predicted that a thinner squad would harm results, so the first round of fixtures can't really be a surprise. The only disappointing aspect is that no-one's coming through the youths to create competition for places -- though how many years have we been saying that? |

Someplace else, it was said the youth was the replacement, and that was the indications given by managers etc. I didn't think it was the case, and it has been dissapointing. We've got nothing in reserve from the youths as far as I can see that is going to do much. Watson looks good, beyond that, Dow seemed decent last year, but seems to have dissapeared again. |

Or alternatively, when we have a narrow midfield, like when we had Gomis or Buaben kind of left / right midfield, there should be more space, as they don't play wide and get forward out wide. Fair enough if we're trying to keep tight at the back, we don't want to be too attacking, but when we're crying out for width, I thought we'd have seen more of them. |

Sorry, I'm not sure what point you're making. I'd be surprised if either Dillon or Dixon were staying back deliberately, whether on their own initiative or under Houston's instruction. If they're not getting forward it's because the structure of the team isn't working. |

I think with the team structure they should be getting forward more. But they're not. So either they don't want to or have been told not to. Robertson doesn't hang wide often - surely there's space for Dillon to get into? Or there should be. It's not a certain point, just something that's been niggling me recently.... |
