It might have worked, if it wasn't for the small matter of the Czech Republic scoring. I have occasionally seen teams play 4-6-0 before, but they have midfielders ahead of the ball when they win possession. |

Fantastic analogy. Regarding the 4-6-0, wasn't that a club-level (i.e. very well gelled and familiar teammates working at it day in day out) tactic specifically built around Del Piero? Was Mackie supposed to similarly be able to pull things together, and the rest of the midfield fully in tune with their attacking/supporting responsibilities?

Problem is, they should have scored 2 or 3. For a team that didn't seem that good, a fair 2-0/3-0 loss to them is a pretty poor return. Dorrans, Morrison, Fletcher 1&2, Iwelumo and Miller are all in decent form, so it's not like we didn't have the personnel to set up with (what would be to that Czech side) a threatening line-up. |

They were there for the taking tonight but their defence was hardly troubled . I can't say we deserved anything out of the game |

A complete shambles. When they eventually scored, it never bothered me much, I assume that's because I knew it was coming, how could it possibly not have been? It really does have to go down as a disgrace. We're going to be a laughing stock at this rate. In the world cup, Korea scored against Brazil, Switzerland scored and beat Spain. Why did Levein think we wouldn't score against a very poor and out of form Czech team? Once we went forward it looked promising, and if we done that from the start, I think we would have scored. Also, why take off Mackie just as we start attacking? Isn't that why he was in the team? |

I don't think it was a bad strategy, although I would wonder if our players are so bad that they can't be trusted to have a bit of a go at a moderate Czech team. I think we had some good players out there. What I don't agree with is that it's Levein's fault if Naismith, Dorrans, Weir and the rest have time on the ball and then clear it up the park to obviously nobody. John Collins and Pat Nevin seemed to reckon that was Levein's fault for not playing a dedicated striker. I would suggest if you're an international footballer and you have possession and look up for somebody to launch it long to but there's nobody there then pass to somebody closer to you. |

Guessing he was getting tired. He did well enough, but hard to say if he's a better option than miller up front. |

Apologies for the outburst before, indeed, one was blind with rage. We need a minimum of 2 strikers for an effective, sustained attacking Scotland team, capable of beating poor teams at home, and possibly results away from home that would not be termed 'flukey'. 4-4-2, is simple, effective, allows nobody to hide, and is less open for criticism. |

Well that was a pretty desperate performance, tactically, individually and verbally. I wonder if Sir Craig now regrets taking the job he obviously shouldn't have taken. His reputation is taking a huge knock, there's not really much he can do to fix the problems Scotland has and yet he's got nobody to blame but himself. I think he's also miscalculated what kind of demeanour is appropriate for a Scotland manager when he gets interviewed. As a club manager, it's OK to be chippy, snippy and slanted. You're only representing your one club in a nation of many, so it's expected. However, when you represent the national team, you need to suck up all the media attention, idiotic or not, smile and mouth platitudes that are basically unreportable. Give the media any more and it's going to get picked over into infinity by the cretinous punditocracy, making your job much harder. Get out while you can, Sir Craig. Just not to anyone else in Scotland. |
