Are we really down to this? Jamie Mackie starting for Scotland? Maybe we are of course. This along with Phil Bardsley in the squad? So we are now in a position where we will literaly call up anyone in order to qualify for the Euros? I find this utterly depressing. Its not as if there are not other players who could not be called oin - Goodie, Riordan, Steven Fletcher? I don't want to sound like one of those chumps that texts into Radio Scotland, but that selection is Burley-esque. Ahh Craig, once I would have believed anything you said... |

What a weird selection, still could be worse as at first I thought it was Darren Mackie. |

I've never seen Jamie Mackie so I can't comment on whether he's good enough for Scotland. I have seen Kenny Miller though, and the bar's been set very low for his replacement. Overall that looks like a decent team to me. I've always rated Caldwell as more of ball playing defender than a defender per se so I wouldn't argue with him playing just behind the midfield. And it's an excellent midfield four (Naismith aside, the dirty c*nt, but he's probably a better dirty c*nt than the alternatives). |

Ach, I'm not really fussed. Scotland is such a ragbag of interchangeable chumps that, through growing up into an adult, I no longer feel they represent me in any way. I just care about the result and don't really care so much for knowing anything about how it is achieved. And if we lose, I'll not be too fussed either. |

I think it's a strange time to try it, given it'll likely not work, I can't see us getting a result. Miller has been playing well, so if we don't get a goal, think there'll be a lot of critisim. Overall, I think it's not a great squad, but not much else to go for really. |

We've been crying out for something better than Miller up front for the lone role, so I'm willing to give this guy a roll. |

Good shout, at least we can see something else up front, although I'm a tad confused by this report. It says "an unusual 4-2-2-2" but previously said Dorrans, Morrison, Fletcher and Naismith were in midfield. That leaves Weir, Whittaker, Hutton, Caldwell or McManus to partner Mackie upfront - indeed a very unusual formation. If Mackie is up front himself then we'll be pissing toward the wind just as much as usual. The managers change but predictably the same tired teamsheet emerges almost un-altered every time. |

Indeed. Miller is honking. Great goal against Roy Lichtenstein's mob but that hardly compensated for an otherwise execrable performance. There's nothing inherently negative about playing with only one striker, so long as the striker is there to score goals rather than run around chasing lost causes. |

With a few of you here. Don't really care. Will look for the result, be happy with anything other than a defeat, but really won't be put up nor down. |

I like it. It goes against the orthodoxy which demands that teams play with at least one nominal striker even if that striker never touches the ball. Far better to stick another player into midfield; someone who will play a useful role. So far so good. . . . Sorry for jinxing it. |

So far it's a bit like when I used to play the attack(red) v defence(yellow) training in fifa 2006 I would be attack but I am crap at fifa so I would attack then eventually lose the ball or shoot weakly the opposition goalkeeper or defender would then pump it upfield and I would start again |

and as in fifa the red team scored (i would eventually get lucky by pressing random buttons) I think Craig lost the plot with the formation tonight we treated the czech's like they were a great team which they aren't, when we went to counter attack there was no one to pass to as everyone was in our own half. I think a poor performance against spain might have craig wishing he had stayed at tannadice. |
