You'll be pleased to hear that there is something almost similar in golf then, and it's used in the Ryder cup. Foursomes, but don't get to excited, it's still golf. Four players making up two teams of two. Of a team of two, player A will tee off with player B taking the 2nd shot and alternating until the ball is holed. Regardless who holes out on the previous hole, Player A will tee off on all Odd numbered holes and player B on even numbered ones. So not only do you have to hit your shot, you have to think about how to leave it for your partner, who may prefer a different lie from what you would normally prefer. Therefore, a team game. And aside from that, Ryder cup on a Monday, it's a work day. Hmm, what to do. Great day for the Europe's today. Never seen anything like that myself before. A fine day of scoring. And especially good to see the USA's talismans brought down a peg or two. |

Ok, I get that then. They play alternate shots, therefore clearly a team game. Is that what they do in the Ryder Cup then? Cos I don't buy this playing conservatively or playing to win piffle. |

As I said you obviously don't get it so no point in worrying about it. Lots of us do get it and we will get on with enjoying it while you watch or participate in something that floats your particular boat. |

If I got there before Yazoo, I'd have explained it. But he says you dont, you wont and never will get it. So I guess there's no point. Enjoy your boating. |

Golf can be a team sport in the way that playing doubles at pool can be a team sport. Sure, you can just let each other play their shots, but there can also be a fair bit of strategy, shot selection and help involved, as well as encouragement. |

Not liking golf or the Ryder Cup specifically does not make you a bad person Conan. It's all the other shit in your life that does that

I'm with Chippy on this one. Not a team game and not really that fun a competition other than some misplaced want to "put one up the Yanks" or "show them European commies who's boss"... in a sport that's like watching paint dry. Now if they spiced things up a bit by introducing some electrified hurdles, booby-trapped trampolines, and some f*cking wild angry whippets or something, then I'd be as intrigued as the next man. Then and only then though, so help me god. Who's with me? |

I'm only saying that were it not for the Hoegaarden I could comfortably live and let live. I'm in no way changing tack on a game that has so little skill involved and is such a hostage to fortune that virtually any halfway competent pro can win the Open. It's a game of luck and where's the fun in that? |

See, now watching the end of this competition, it's what sphincters were made for. Twitching at moments like this. Great stuff. 13.5 points each and all down to the last pairing. |
