Does anyone else find it frustrating that they are playing while there is football on? It's a bit in considerate for us sports lovers to be doing this.

Can't say it bothers me, as I'm trying hard to avoid it. I know if I start to watch one little bit of it, or even listen to live radio coverage, I will be hooked, consequently spending the entire weekend in a state of constant high agitation.

Nothing gets me so worked up as the Ryder Cup. Nothing. And it's just golfers - who are bigger fannies even than footballers.

So if I told you that in the 3rd session (which has retired for the evening and resumed tomorrow morning) that You're Up are ahead in all 6 matches. that wont even ignite a little interest in you?

The Ryder Cup on the radio is essential listening. 5-Live do it so well, I'd choose to listen to it rather than watch on Sky. I hate golf for the other 1 year 51 weeks and 4 days.

Oh, I've checked the score alright. It's the life-stopping live coverage that undoes me.

I've already considered tomorrow - all those foursomes/fourballs to conclusion, then all the singles. That would be the most excruciating form of torture I could inflict on myself, but, well, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. I'd be blind drunk by the end of it, totally offensive, unbearable and taking gross advantage of friends' hospitality. Oh, I'm considering it alright.

So on a leap year, you get excited one day early?

Easy there, that's how people start off a hobby like stalking. So I've heard anyway :ph43r:

Ok. I have a question. I just saw Monty on the telly and, is he related to the Royal Family? Man, he is the poshest sportsman I've heard since Princess Anne.

Also, he was talking about his team showing passion. I can recognise a football team showing passion - how do you recognise passionate golfers? That's mental.

AND - how is so obviously an individual sport horse-shoed into a team format? Just silly.

I don't mind golf, but I hate the Ryder Cup. It's one of those scenarios where I don't want either side to win.

I love it. Hate golf, but this somehow tickles the cherries. Dunno why. I become all European.

No television out here though and 5Live not allowed to broadcast here for this.

Stuck watching the text from BBC which is crap.

Any individual sport can be transformed into a team format, golf is no different in that. Golf clubs across the world play each other in a team format every week. The Ryder cup is close to if not the pinnacle of the team format of the game.

Those guys are pumped more than ever because it is a team format competition and they love it. Amazingly it almost invariably results in a cliff hanger of a conclusion. I just despise the fact that it is on Sky and I wont pay that bastard a penny and so cannot see it.

That just explains that it IS a team format, not how it works as a team game or what extra elements the team format brings, for example, teamwork.

For the record I think it is ridiculous in tennis as well, but at least you can play doubles there.

What do you think a foursomes is if not doubles?

As an example of team work, and the same applies to bowls by the way, you may be in a position where your team needs you to chase a win or alternatively you may be required to play more conservatively to protect the half for the good of the overall team score.

It is clear though that you just don't get it and no amount of explanation or illustration will convince you but be assured it is definitely a team game with all of the psychology that goes with it.
