I'm going to add it to the list on LoveFilm.

Lovefilm are arseholes, for many reasons.

yeeeeeeeesss?

1 - When the terribly flimsy return envelope easily ripped while opening the blu-ray discs, I went to their website to order a new return envelope, but it never arrived.

2 - The blu-rays weren't burnable, even using normally excellent illegal software.

3 - The online streams (despite having a very good broadband connection) were poor.

4 - To cancel, you have to call up their 'customer service' centre. You can't simply cancel on their site.

5 - Upon calling, the staff were rude, and not only that, but didn't even bother to ask why I was cancelling - which I mentioned. They also said that my account was provisionally cancelled, but not properly, since the dvds hadn't been returned.

I informed them that I had sent them the previous day, by recorded delivery, and that they would receive the dvds later that day. It was 1pm. They said that when they receive the dvds, they will cancel my account.

This was the day before the next instalment was due to come out. It was a Friday. They said they shut at 10pm.

Around 9pm that night, I checked my package status from Royal Mail. It had been signed by LoveFilm staff at 11am. I called the 'customer service support' centre again, and was told that my account was provisionally cancelled.

Me: 'Hold on, you've received my dvds'

Them: 'Yes.'

Me: 'You said that when you received the dvds, my account would be cancelled. You received the dvds at 11am. It is now 10 hours later. Why is my account still provisionally closed, and not fully closed?'

Them: 'You need to tell us why you want to cancel.'

Me: 'I want to cancel because your dvds are shoddy, and the reorder return envelopes didn't arrive.'

Them: 'Thank you'

Me: 'Have you closed my account?'

Them: 'I will see to that now'

Me: 'Are you saying that if I hadn't called back tonight, you wouldn't have cancelled my account and I would have been charged again for next month?'

Them: 'Yes.'

Me: 'Right, close my account right now. I want email confirmation of my closed account immediately, and confirmation that I will not be charged again by your company'.

A couple of minutes later I received an email stating that my account had been closed and that I wouldn't be charged again.

Me: 'I've received the email. Your company is a disgrace."

Additionally, I know someone who works in a bank, and they get quite a few people saying that Lovefilm keeps charging them even though they've cancelled their subscription.

Just to add to the discussion about United's players out on loan....

I thought Chasing Amy was great - one of my favourite films.
Mallrats, decent.
Clerks was excellent, but that has been covered.
J&SBSB is very good for chuckling along to when you're high...
Jersey Girl, shite.
Zack and Miri Make a Porno - totally forgettable. I watched it once and that is all I remember.
Clerks 2, a couple of funny jokes, but nothing to write home about.

In summary, I make that approximately 2.5 films.

Just a point about having to call them to cancel your account. There is surely an easier way. if you go to your bank, tell them to cancel the direct debit for whatever company tou wish you cease dealing with, said company will have no qualms about cancelling your account for you. Job done.

Loan Watch - a place to discuss Loaning Flims. Kind of like Watchdog, but not about dogs. We can also discuss Bank Loans and Wrist Watches that are on loan to others if you want.

We could also compare tales of leaving Musselburgh to the east, according to my SatNav.

It's easier to physically go into a bank than it is to make a phone call?

Do you not have online banking?

I quite like LoveFilm. Very quick sending DVDs and, on the one occasion where the discs genuinely went missing on the way back, they accepted this without question. I found the streams pretty good, not perfect, but easily watchable.

Haven't tried cancelling yet, and having to ask for additional return envelopes is indeed like pishing in the wind. Although you can just bung your films in a normal envelope and write their freepost address on it.

Are the alternatives going to be any better?

Haven't got round to online banking. Besides, I'm not sure what the terms and conditions would say. I wouldn't want to unilaterally cancel the subscription, then have them chase me and affect my credit rating.

Surely the easiest option would be to simply cancel online, like you can do with other services.

Alternatives are a video shop, or buying the dvds. I wouldn't have had the use of it after a few months, anyway, so it wasn't for me. What got my back up was their bullshit for me cancelling, and them trying to diddle me for another month. And my case isn't isolated.

I'm not saying they had to be happy about it, but their customer service really was awful.
