I thought they already did, but probably stopped paying attention to them. However much all of this costs, I hope they're paying for. |

Well, cost apart, this is brilliant entertainment. From the evidence so far and everything that has come out on this in the past, it seems fairly obvious that the Sheridans are lying, but either way it is fascinating watching the whole fiasco unravel. I might even pop down to the High Court to take some of it in. |

Oh no, you're just in time for the wonderful and appalling end to this wonderfully appaling modern day Greek tragedy. I'm predicting hubris to end all hubris. My only regret is that the trial's being held in Glasgow. I'd love to have been able to pop in for a couple of days to soak it all up. |

Am I just imagining the fact that everyone knew they lied previously? And the same missing / deleted minutes stuff has been covered before? |

Well, we all knew in so much as anyone half paying attention could see it from the start. Everyone except the jury in the libel trial it seems. This is the perjury case being heard now. Once he goes down (which he surely will), the NOTW's appeal against the libel trial verdict will be heard. |

If they get convicted of perjury, wouldn't the verdict of the NOtW trial be immediately overturned due to the proven perjury they committed during that trial? |

It would depend on the precise verdict of the court in the perjury case. For example, a decision which narrated that Sheridan did attend a swingers club and lied about it (and whatever else was reported by the NOTW and held to be defamatory), would be held to be res judicata (something which has already been judicially decided and therefore doesn't need to be proven in evidence). That would give the NOTW an irresistible defence against libel (because the court would hold the truth of their statement to be proven). So, they'd definitely win. If, on the other hand, the court in the perjury trial found Sheridan guilty of perjury but did not not explicitly find that he'd lied about the reports at issue in the libel case (ie. he lied about something else), then there would still be scope to argue that while Sheridan is a big fat liar, he was still defamed in the NOTW story. That second scenario seems unlikely and, in any event, Sheridan's credibility would be utterly ruined. |

Sorry, forgot to say, you'd still need a trial but it would be painfully short (allowing Tommy to be back in prison in time for tea). |
