I prefer it when we're pish

Time to start paying attention to what's happening down below. By my reckoning the First Division next season will contain Dundee United, Falkirk, QoS, Raith Rovers, Morton, St Mirren, Dumbarton, Dunfermline and one of Peterhead, Ayr Utd or Livingston.

Nothing in particular to be terrified of, our most dangerous opponents out of that lot look like being Falkirk. I'm excited by finally getting to visit Cappielow 34 years after my previous attempted visit there was thwarted by a friend's Dad dodgy motor which collapsed in a heap of steam and swearing on the southbound M90. I have also not been to Palmerston, Somerset Park or wherever Peterheid play, but am tickled by the prospect.

At the other end I suppose we have to hope that both Hubs and Rangers go up and that the final place goes to one of the teams cluttering 4th-11th. Who would you prefer for who is likely to be our chief antagonist?

Kilmarnock? I think it'll be they and I wouldn't be too disappointed.
I wouldn't fancy Motherwell, can't imagine they'd linger long in Div 1.
Patrick wouldn't be bad - I'm sure they'd revert to being shite again, their current purple period is as transient as their student support.
St Johnnies - no thanks. Expect they'll pull away though. I preferred them when they couldn't beat us for toffee.
Ross County and ICT. No ta, too far away and I never fancy us against weather-beaten hairy-bawed Highlanders, even if most of them speak Estuary.
My choice would be Dundee. While it's slightly improbable they'll descend to second bottom by season's end things far more unlikely have happened - Ronald Reagan becoming President, Michael McIntyre making a career as a comedian, Planet 9 being discovered. I'd take the Dees downstairs with us primarily to keep them schtum.

Would prefer the Dee's but killie probably a safer bet.

I think we could do ok however we would need a sea change in attitude and application.

Doubtful the current squad has it in them to win any fixture. Remember Airdrie was a struggle.

Airdrie was a struggle, but a win. The current squad won't be there anyway, largely.

I wouldn't rule out Hibs or even Rangers staying down...whichever makes it to the playoff has a hell of a lot of pressure on them and everyone assumed the Huns would squish Well last year in the playoff and we all know how that turned out.

It certainly won't be half as tough a second tier as it was the last time we were down there, with all of Dundee, St J's and the Pars all with handy teams. Assuming both the teams go up from the Championship this year we'd be massive favourites to come straight back. Hmm...not sure that's such a good thing really...

Its bound to be Killie surely- they think theyve got good youth and soon they'll be over 15 points ahead of us- so why shouldn't they go for administration and take the hit whilst getting rid of the elderly unfit duds on high pay contracts like Stevie Smith and the latest trichological miracle that is Boyd.

I think the Huns will sneak the title mainly because the pressure league games have shown that Hibs don't quite have the fortitude for that particular battle - Rangers at Ibrox and Livingston last weekend. If they end up playing Motherwell I think they would beat Hibs.

If it's Kilmarnock, Hibs will go up.

After last night, seems like Hibs will be in the play off. 8 points behind and much worse goal difference.

And whoever faces them in the play off should fancy their chances, Hibs still seem to have plenty of wobbles when it counts.

I'd agree with that...given their recent record in such games there's no certainty they'll get through the playoffs to the final either.

It's a lot better for United that Hibs stay down anyway...not because it makes life easier to get back up - it won't - but because it'll keep interest in the division much higher than it would otherwise be. It would be nice to think there will still be media coverage devoted to the division even when the big team are 'back in their rightful place'. There's more chance that'll happen if Hibs stay with us.

Assuming we go down of course.
