I wonder if, at the end of the 75/76 season, anyone was asking for McLean's head or wanting rid of Hegarty or Narey. Not helpful, I know, just wondering.
I think there was significant unrest, also a section of the support were unhappy that Andy gray was sold.

Interesting. I see we spent a lot of time then in ninth place.
Whoa! Dundee relegated with the 3-points-for-a-win equivalent of 43 points from 36 games. That is unfortunate.

Still having problems against Motherwell and St Johnstone in those days too. How bad were the Perth Saints that season?

Though the table doesn't change much with three-for-a-win. We move one point above Aberdeen, and Dundee are still relegated on goal difference.

Ten team league with two relegated looks bloody great. Proper peril all the way down. Why don't we go back to that? Namby-pamby ideas about financial security are killing the excitement.

I'm sure the story goes that United went to Ibrox on the last day needing a draw to stay up. In the last minute it's nil-nil and United get a penalty (aye, in the last minute at Ibrox, I did say it was a story....). Up steps Hamish McAlpine to take it, misses and has to sprint back to his goals while the rest of the team defend desperately.

Can't actually be true can it?

It only took 12 years from two-down-out-of-ten to none-down cos we're inccreasing the league to 12.

Well, looked at the results and United drew their final game at Ibrox 0-0 on the Tuesday, after the rest of the league had finished on the Saturday. Seems it was the days before Sporting Integrity.

So, yes, defeat at Ibrox to the champions meant relegation. Am now going in search of a missed penalty from 1976 on the internet....

Also - it took a run of five straight wins without conceding a goal through March to give us any chance of safety. Same again please.

Well, that would be better than last March.

And both Dundee and Aberdeen seemed to go on poor runs as we went on our good run -would support the wobble theory. If we can now go on a good run march and induce some 75/76 type wobbles we're in with a chance. History is on our side.
