Riski and Ofere are players who may be useful to us next year. If we play them for the rest of the season, we'll have a better idea what they offer. And there's no likely to be any decent young players who can step in. Pongolle, Demel, McKay probably can be phased out. Kawashima probably worth playing just to make sure we don't totally implode. |

Riski and Ofere won't be here beyond summer. Bin them now. Offer Dow a new contract on Championship wages. |

Why? We need new players for the championship. They seem like players who could be good for the championship. If we've got them for another 10 games, why not see if they able to be useful. Otherwise, we'll just sign two other randoms for next season, which will be more of a risk. Granted, they may have no desire to hang around, but if we need players, why overlook the ones we have now? |

I'd keep Mixu, largely because there are no good alternatives, but there needs to be a public admittance that his Expendables signing policy has been a disaster. Filling the squad with half-fit international journeymem at the fag end of their career has hindered us more than it's helped. If there's a way to terminate the contracts of Pongolle, Demel, Riski, Kawashima, Ofere, etc then we absolutely should. Folk desperately need a reason for optimism right now, and that's only likely to come from the youth side, most of whom will still be with us next term. So play them. What's the worst that could happen? |

Where the phuck was Dow and Muirhead? Thought the 1st half was a phuckin awful if I'm honest. Miss by Ranks in the 1st 3 minutes, when Murray and McKay are in the box, and he shoulda put it a cross in. McKay was oing mental at Ranks for no passin it in, then no long after he does EXACTLY the same. Musta been the cleanest ball in Europe last night for aboot 10 minutes, because coz it never touched the grass. There were mwnyany occasions where Spittal is on his own on the right wing, no chunt near him, yet the goalie kicks the ball out into the mix on the left, and 2 or 3 times it goes oot for a throw-in to Motherwell. Noticed the Motherwell keeper getting the ball out to their player when he was on his own, and he managed to run 60/70 yards doon the wing makin crosses into our box. 1st goal was due to Dillon and Dixon no managing to get the ball off the Motherwell player withoot fouling him.. 3 defenders couldna defend from the the free-kick, and McManus heads it in. Demel's the biggest chunt in the squad. Where the phuck was he. At half time, still thought we would pull it back, but TBH thought it might end up being a draw. 2nd goal. Sh1tey header attempt by Gunning which gives the ball straight to McDonald at the back post. None of our players nersr him of course. Paton tries to block, but it's too late. Keeper stands like hang-the-man, and Ronald McDonald puts it in. 3rd goal. Good strike by McDonald. but why was there no chunt challening him? Dillon and Gunning no near him. Ref was a prime example of an SFA official pr1ck. Everything went in Motherwell's favour IMO. Shoulda been half a dozen oe them booked for time-wasting, which started right from kick-off, and got progressively worse ad the game went on. True McDonald got a yellow late on. The loss is a phuckin disaster. But what I canna understand, is why the phuck we never managed to even score 1 phuckin goal. Was said in the past few days that we could beat Motherwell 3 times. We need to beat them once first. To put it into simple terms, we are phucked. |

If if it were within my gift, I'd sack Gavin Gunning first thing this morning. I badly need a scapegoat and what better scapegoat could you hope for? Please tell me he's only signed till the summer. |

Given our sporadic signing policy based on Championship Manager 2008/09 I'm a little worried about what the strategy will be for next season, because, really you have to do what Hearts and to a lesser extent Hibs (and to no extent Rangers) have done which is to look at the first season you are back up rather than just getting out of the Championship. We need a real strategy that is based on binning the loanees, trying out the kids who the coaching staff realistically think will be good enough to a) get us up and then b) will be good enough to play SPFL football. My worry is that we will look at just getting out of the division, so overpaid, over the hill types come in because they can roll their sleeves up or some depressing nonsense - we need to use this relegation as a chance to set the team up for a realistic chance of staying up should we come back. I'm not sure Mixu is the man for that. |

Given Mixu's contrat runs until June 18, and since we're going down, finances are going to be strained, not sure we're going to be paying him off any time soon. |

We have only two goals left this season : 1) Get more than the record low points (is it St Johnstone on 18?) 2) Avoid being relegated directly by Dundee (or Aberdeen for that matter), even if that means throwing a game or two beforehand. |

Well that was a conversion of biblical proportions! We were simply terrible. It's quite amazing to have seen a team fall as quickly and as dramatically as we have done. We weren't outplayed or anything, as Motherwell were awful too. In fact it's a game we could have won. They scored with I think their first shot right on half time (from a set piece, although delivery and header were both excellent). We had pressure in the second half, Billy McKay even saving a goalbound shot from Rankin, and despite still being rotten we were under no pressure until we lost yet another goal from a corner, which I think was their second shot on target. I don't think Motherwell necessarily deserved to win. Just they took their chances on the day and we are still just not good enough defending crosses into the box. That's 1 point from 6 available against Motherwell and Hamilton. There are still games available, and the team can be competitive enough and win some of these matches. But those were two huge games against two of the poorest teams in the league and we were honking! Mixu said after the Hamilton game that we were no longer a soft touch, well many would dispute that and we also have abandoned even trying to play any sort of football. Hit the ball into the channel. Forward makes diagonal run. It was like neither team wanted the ball last night and felt closer to amateur football than...well some amateur games I've seen. Dixon....didn't he play for Scotland a couple of times? Pale, pale shadow of what he used to be. Almost couldn't believe it. Think every cross he tried went straight out for a goal kick. Was caused problems when they came forward. Just struggled from the start until he was hooked 55 minutes in. I sang the praises of Murray the other week, well today showed, or exposed rather, the flip side. His work rate is brilliant and he'll run anyone into the ground. It's definitely a very useful asset, but as a footballer, he's just lacking. In the head and in the toes. At one of the kick off's he thought he could just sprint with the ball and something might come of it. Not an important moment to highlight, but one that displayed how he's all about effort and very little else. Motherwell had the ball back within one second and were back on the attack. Ofere came on, he's a battering ram. A big scary one, but a battering ram nonetheless. He'll put his weight into challenges, win some headers. Dubious as to whether he'll be able to bring anything else to the team. While Paton's performance on the night wasn't the worst, he possibly was my biggest disappointment. I've been a fan of his since he came to the club, and you could argue that missing him in the early part of the season was a factor in us conceding so many. You could still make that point, especially considering that we have been conceding very few goals lately. He does a decent job of protecting the defence, as he always has done. But in such an anti football game, the game was crying out for someone to be big enough to get their foot on the ball. Or go looking to receive the ball and use it in a simple but positive way. And maybe I'm being harsh when there were others guilty of it too, but he just wasn't interested in getting on the ball at all. And there were ample opportunities. I think it's a very bad sign when your centre midfielders don't want to receive the ball. I'll not drone on more, but it was painful seeing the ball go aimlessly long and possession being lost when there could have been a very simple and easy option. Other mentions, back 3 was mainly decent enough actually, but Motherwell's woefulness meant they gave the ball away most times before having a chance to attack us. Rankin and Dillon I feel sorry for. Got all the time in the world for those guys, they put everything they can into every match and you can see them hurting when it goes wrong like last night. Shame there's not enough other's with that same attitude. McKay didn't see a lot of the ball and wasn't playing great, was still surprised to see him getting hooked early though. Demel is a worthwhile enough player, but it's not at the front of a midfield 3. He'll fight (literally) and will do a tidy enough job in the defensive role, but he's not a creative player. Looking at the line up, having essentially 3 defensive midfield players in the middle suggested we were just out to battle. And for me that was a bad decision. Players such as Fraser and Souttar received criticism this season, deservedly so, and can be considered luxury players. But they are also the players who are likeliest to make something happen, rather than hoping for something from a mistake, which was all we could muster last night. I think in a three man midfield we should have one guy who has a bit of craft to create something. The only player who started last night who looked like he may produce that was Spittal, and he didn't see much of the ball cos we barely put two passes together all night. Ball into the channel, ball up in the air, ball....wtf was that ball, etc. Anyway, the championship beckons. I'm not all that upset about that. In the last few months we've completely abandoned trying to play anything resembling football and signed a load of short term fixes of guys who have been once of a high standard and thus also a hefty sized wage. Exactly the opposite of what all the success United have had has stemmed from. Okay sure I can see why we took that gamble, we wanted to stay in the top flight. Well if it's not going to happen, time to get back to culturing an environment where players can grow and improve and move onto bigger and better things. Guys like Spittal and Fraser (maybe even Telfer) are capable of being very good players. Let's help them achieve what their potential, it's in our interests to do so. I was really sad at Soutar moving on to Hearts, for me that represents a massive failure from our club to be able to nurture an extremely talented player. I want that to be an isolated incident, not a sign of things to come. I'm off for a drink! |
