Anyone else think this season was constructed so we didn't forget what it's like to be down the bottom half, after all it must be ten years since we were?

Not sure what you mean by 'constructed' but one thing i have noticed is that it's brought out a really nasty side in a lot of United support. We're in danger of getting as bitter and vindictive as Dundee fans at this rate.

I couldn't agree more, Cob.
I don't know if it's the recent social media-fuelled tendency to go overboard, which we've perhaps not seen much of given our recent golden period, but the vitriol from some people in public is astonishing.
Grown men hanging over the railings above the tunnel in the Jerry Kerr, purple in the face, screaming abuse at the players as they leave at half-time.
Supporters turning on each other for voicing any sort of opinion contrary to the prevailing attitudes.

I know it's a cliche but it really is just a game.

I think social media doesn't help, but this nasty side has been in evidence for a long time. But in our recent history the abuse that Conway, Daly, Armstrong, GMS (to say nothing of Thompson) all took pretty appalling abuse from people who probably shouldn't be let out the house alone.

I haven't been up the road too much this season, but the couple of times I have been, it's been embarrassing listening to our supporters.

Has it always been this way? As a boy I remember that the likes of McGinnis and Beaumont used to get routinely abused for not being Narey, Hegarty or Gough.

McGinnis was pish, to be fair.

Thon railings have been the scene of some disgraceful sights. Mind the boy in the tie boxing like Dolph Lungren when the Dynamo fans scaled the wall below. I couldn't get over the tie, it was so out of place, with his beetroot complexion, huffin and puffin, they big puddin chops of his. Also had an extremely naff hairstyle if I recall correctly. Don't think Thompson would have been happy with him resprentin Utd. If he had to have someone behaving disgracefully like that, i'm sure he'd have preferred someone cooler.

I remember appreciating the irony of it all kicking off in the Fair Play stands.

Coincidentally, the incident that I mentioned above involved a load of drunks in suits.

That picture, though. It's glorious. There's the Golden Ratio composition, of course ....

Fabulous post.

I'm not sure there's any other football messageboard that would have that post, especially with my retort to it.

Which is that rather than Geurnica (though I get the contextual reference) it reminds me of Bosch or Breugel a bit more. The Fight Between Puddings and Dicks if you will. Genius.

Yes, Cob, totally. I only referenced Guernica in terms of zeitgeist, but in style and composition it reminds me much more of one of those giant swirly fleshy Rubens scenes, where every face is an explosion. The tiger hunt, perhaps.

How does one save a webpage for future perusal? Because that post of Naebody's is the best post of any internet forum I've ever seen, and I include the 'The Catholics have won' post from RangersMedia a few years back.

I think that's a bit unfair. Right enough, I did also think he was pish in the games I was at but he shows up reasonably well in games I've got on tape. He certainly never looked the part but my revised view is that he was quietly effective.
