What are people making of Mr Spittal these days? Is his contribution enough to make him worth the big move or is he still talented but inconsistent, sometimes utterly invisible? |

I like him a lot. Very positive, never hides, happy to track back and clearly knows how to take a free-kick. I think he has the potential to be as good, possibly better, than Armstrong. Ideally, any bids, barring a Lisbon/Gauld-type one, will be rebuffed with the intention of building a team around him, Fraser, Coote etc. That's what I'd be selling him if I was ST. Hopefully he's got enough nous to realise another year of first team football will only do him good. Though, given some of the abuse he's endured, both online and at work, it wouldn't surprise me if he jumped at the first opportunity. |

Not consistently good in a Gauld type way yet. Has clearly worked on dead ball delivery ( unlike Dixon) and thus seems committed to professional improvement which can only be consolidated with regular first team football. He won't get that with a transfer at this stage. |

I think he's steadily improved and has become a very effective player for us. Looking at Souttar, he's got talent, but never seems to play a position very well. Spittal does the opposite, in that he'll do a decent job wherever he's played. What's his best position though? Playing so many positions has probably helped him in some ways, but slowed in others. Sure another year of development will help him. |

I'd have thought as one of the wide roles of the attacking trident in a 4-3-3. The dreaded 5-3-2 with wingbacks that cover the entire length of the pitch is probably due a comeback, and if he had the masochistic drive to be one of those wingback suckers I'm sure he'd have carved out a career position for himself as that, or a dissatisfied attacking fullback. How's his tackling? |

Putting his name into the search box suggests the folk on here have been consistently positive about Spittal. He suffered a bit, I guess, from not being a straight replacement for Armstrong or GMS. His centre of gravity's not low enough to play as a conventional winger and, when in central midfield, games can pass him by. Wing-back is the position where his strengths (ie. touch, intelligence and attitude) don't get eclipsed by his weaknesses, many of which are likely to be a consequence of being only just out of his teens. I'd hope he'll still be with us by February 1, for the simple reason that wing backs are out of fashion for type of teams we sell players to. However, I'd be surprised if he's still with us by August 31. |
