Gary Locke has resigned as Kilmarnock manager. Lee McCulloch is the interim boss. Don't know if the resignation or interim boss appointment is good for us.

If McCulloch stays on long, surely a good thing...

Hmm... McCulloch looks like he might be one of those managers to get that extra percent out of a squad.
Or he may be a disaster.
Locke would perhaps rather not be the man who relegated them.
Smart move.

Funny decision. If it was actually Locke's decision, then that's a managerial career-ending decision. Or at least should be. The one thing Locke was supposed to have is fighting spirit. Never a manager though, and should never have been given the job by Killie, who seem to be cornering themselves into the market of managerial twats, appointing McCulloch as interim whilst apparently approaching Billy Davies.

While we deserve to go down, it's nice to now have some competition.

So, unless any of the 2016 end-of-contracts (eg: Rankin) re-signs, at the moment this is the best 11 or so that we can muster for the opening game in the championship...

Szromnik/Zwick

Dillon Durnan Donaldson Dixon ... 4D or 22DD

Spittal Paton Fraser Telfer

Muirhead Murray

For a championship side, it could be worse. The keeper situation ain't great though - 2 under contract until 2017 and neither is exactly inspiring.

Well, it's not a team to beat Hibs or Rangers to promotion, so let's hope those two come up this season.

It's a pretty miserable squad, half of who wouldn't get in the hibs side, although on the plus side, it's pretty cheap.

Yes, and if we were to lose all our out of contract players and use the cash for absolutely no new signings that is the squad we'd have right enough. But as that has no chance of happening it seems a bit strange to discuss it.

If we do get rid of all the relatively big earning guys who are leaving we can surely recruit at a slightly lower level. That may not be such a bad thing if we get some motivated young talent to replace them...we won't be a huge draw for players, but we'll still be among the biggest wage payers in Scotland. I'd expect our wage bill in the Championship would not be a lot different to the bottom half of the Premier. It's about recruiting the right players, for whatever we pay them.

We've shed a lot of the overstuffed squad we had so it may take just half a dozen new faces to make that a decent team, whichever league we're in.

We also have a Premiership youth setup where the investment has been structural and long term, so it seems pessimistic to disregard it entirely just because the First XI's crap. I don't know if guys like Coote, Robson, Johnson, Sukar and Souttar 2.0 will make it, but I'd be very surprised if all of them turn out to be below Championship quality.

Why is it strange to look ahead and think about what type of squad we are going to potentially have?

I'd hope someone at the club is doing the same. Of course, we don't know as much as they do about who is going to stay or be offered contracts.

But at the same time, it makes sense to look at. In May last year, we looked ahead and saw no goalkeeper, and worried. Then it happened.

I'm not saying we shouldn't be thinking ahead, just not to get too despondent about our chances of coming back up should we go down.

Though, realistically, we'll probably only need a top half finish to go up as yet another reconstruction looms.

Does a reconstruction actually loom?

Whenever I see such a headline I just skip it, as this comes up every six months when journalists are bored or Ibroxers look unlikely to be in the top division next season. This has saved me seconds of valuable life and I see no reason to change it now unless instructed to by a trusted correspondent.

He's been left on the bench for the Special Needs team against Hearts today, which is 0-3 down after half an hour. So, frankly, I think the evidence speaks for itself.

Seems that way.

A Justin Johnston inspired second half saw a resilient United development side draw 3-3, despite being 3 down after 30 mins. Johnston didn't come off the bench, but his exceptional warm up on the touchline, where he nutmegged 3 ball boys, proved the inspiration for the fight back.
