Is there really any point following United in the Championship? The squad will still be poor, lack proper leadership on the park and continue to be riven by disputes in the boardroom- at least until our excellent Chairman finally gives up and hands over control to Justine.

The squad isn't likely to be poorer than it currently is in providing interest or entertainment even if we go down, at least for me, and that's all that matters.

I guess the next month will show signs of how the board want to play things. And I'd much rather they did actions rather than words.

Although if they've attempted in anyway to reignite some positivity in anyway at the club this season, they've failed, and need to work to get it again.

It does sound odd to say that luck has been a big part of it when we've made so many mistakes both on and off the field, but it really has.

There's a reluctance among humans to accept the huge role fate has in life in general and therefore in sport. We like to think there's some form of justice and order in our world and that we aren't subject to whims of pure chance, but the truth is otherwise. We come up with meaningless statements like 'you make your own luck' and 'what's for you will no go by you' and so on. It's nonsense.
We have been very unlucky in many games, and could have been only a few points adrift with a few wins to set us up with a bit of form.

If you can't effect if, there's little point in worrying about it, so there's not much you can do other than try any means to get the players / fans / whoever to keep working and hoping it turns. Giving up after a run of bad luck is the worst thing to do (in football, not other things...). So why not pretend it'll all even itself out or you affect, if it helps to motivate the players.

We've been down for weeks - the coup d' grace should mathematically be delivered by end February.

Is there really any point following United in the Championship? The squad will still be poor, lack proper leadership on the park and continue to be riven by disputes in the boardroom- at least until our excellent Chairman finally gives up and hands over control to Justine.

The only question remains whether the Diddleys will come down with us. I reckon there's every chance of that.
To be fair, you've had us down since before a ball was kicked. You may well have been the wisest here in that respect.

But it seems a bit pessimistic to assume we'll be every bit as bad a level down. We've little idea who will still be at the club a year from now - chair, players or manager - to start asserting such stuff.
I disagree, and I refer you to the predictions 15/16 thread. It was only once I'd watched them for a few games that I realised the malaise was even worse than I suspected. I thought we'd be close enough at midway to recover once some decent signings were made. Unfortunately I didn't factor in the Mixu effect of trying a 3-4-2-1 formation without the players to make it work, particularly in defence.

I just love Naebs's post hoc betting tips though- a real odds up setter , no mistake

Naebody is there anything positive about our current situation.
Well, it makes every game interesting. There's certainly more interest this year than during our usual "will we finish fourth or fifth?" cliffhanger.

Calico, here's what you wrote in the predictions thread you cite:

Quote:

7. Dundee United - start of a steady decline, too predictable, a lack of goals, unfamiliar defenders and keeper. New experienced signings might steady ship before season end relegation battle

... Which was optimistic only in the sense that it wasn't quite pessimistic enough. So I'll ask again: can you find any post over the past five years where you had a positive thing to say about United? Because I looked, and couldn't. All I need is one positive observation about a player, coach, performance or any other aspect of the club you theoretically support. Maybe you once noted that you enjoyed your half-time pie. Anything.

Well, in the spirit of New Year, New Start, I'm going to stick my neck out and predict that we'll be within touching distance of Kilmarnock by the time of the next derby.
A comfortable win at Airdrie, coupled with a spirited display against The Celtics, will set us up for a run of games - Killie(h), Partick(a), Hamilton (a) - against the three teams nearest us.
However, they all have games against much stronger opposition during that period, leaving us in prime position to close that damn gap!

One can dream, can't one?

Happy new year to you all, by the way.

Whatever it is you are trying to prove here, it's only clear that you haven't looked very hard- which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone on here.

What I'm suggesting is that you're a relentlessly negative doomsayer, which makes the current accuracy of your forecasts more of the stopped-clock variety. This is my third request for you to prove me wrong.

FFS you two will you stop acting like an old married couple?

There is nothing positive about losing games.

We need a confidence boost and a strategy of back to basics fitba

4-4-2 two fast wingers and a target man.

Yes id even take Kris Boyd.

This is the time to.open up all guns blazing.

Get behind the team and stop moaning.

The proof is already there- it's just that you're not very good at extracting it.

In case anyone's in the mood for a punt, United finishing 12th is now 1.62 to sell on Betfair (vs 1.22 to buy). I'm going to stick my neck out and say that's too cheap.

Meanwhile, Thompson gives a long intervierview in which he calls JMc a cunt, to paraphrase.

It's a good interview, which doesn't even mention Sackie Jack. But in the substantive content he is spot on. The recruitment of Bodul, Sjneider, Donaldson et al at huge operating (if not capital) expense was an unmitigated disaster. The question not asked was " what process allowed this to happen, and who was responsible for over-seeing it?"

A the very least we could then find out what David Southern actually does.
