I guess if there's been indirect talks, then the club can't deny it, but at the same time, it seems strange to even be perusing at all, from both sides.

But then, I have a very low opinion of Thompson. It's worth being as clear as possible about this. Shakhtar isn't a football team, it's a front. Football is a mechanism Akhmetov uses to gain the human shield of public support domestically, while facilitating the movement of large sums of money around in a quasi-transparent way. Of course he wants to add a feeder club. A formal relationship would make the process of taking cash out of Ukraine much more simple. Clearly, United are of interest to him because we're in an unregulated and unscrutinised backwater yet have taken in ~£10m of transfer fees over the past decade. Akhmetov (or rather, the "agents" that take a fee for doing his laundry) see an opportunity to push similar amounts of Ukrainian cash through United's books by trading their meat puppets. It's nothing whatsoever to do with football. We really need a categorical denial asap.
