If we play like we did against celtic, we've a decent chance to get something from this game.

Ciftci coming back will be interesting - would be a shame for Muirhead to drop out. Maybe a game for Ciftci in midfield, while Erskine sits out.

I make that nine defeats and two draws in the last in 12 games, with an aggregate score of 7-27 over the last 18 hours of football. Ok, so this season's a writeoff, but we could really do with a result soon. Morale could suffer.

................. Cz
McGowan Fojut Morris Dixon
...... Souttar Butcher
. Connolly Ciftci Spittal
.......... Muirhead

1-2.

Id still want Telfer to play. I agree that Ciftci should play off Muirhead, but no doubt McJanamara will play the Hoover instead

I'd put Telfer in. If we can have a chain of Souttar , Telfer and Connolly and through in Ciftici, it's nearly a combination to get slightly excited about.

But I think Spittal is doing a decent job of covering for Dow, so is useful have at times also.

I'd also want Telfer to play (if only to give him as many opportunities as possible). Who do you drop though?

Muirhead? That's no reward for doing well last game.
Souttar? Ditto.
Butcher? For the moment, I'd rather not have Souttar play holding defence alone.
Ciftci? Obviously, no. And if Muirhead's played upfront, the only position left for him is in the hole.
Connolly? But Telfer's not a winger.
Spittal? Same problem.

Therefore, the only way to shoehorn Telfer into the team is to drop Rado and play 4-5-2

Spittal out, Ciftci left, Telfer central.

Ciftci's played there before, more often than in behind a striker.

... But Ciftci is a terrible winger. The fact that he has played there doesn't mean he should. Moreover, it seems so obvious to put him in the hole (where strength, creativity and vision are more important than workrate) that it's a crime it's been tried so rarely.

4.2 on United to win seems quite generous. You can also get 13ish on United to win by a margin of more than one, for to live without hope is to cease to live.

Nobody (not even Naebs) will have a clue what JMac's formation or tactics will be, but agree with Set that if we play as well as we did against Smellshit, then we've got a chance.

If we were picking the best and most sensible side, the Citfci would be up front and Muirhead on the bench. But if we're wanting to keep Muirhead up front and try something different, then I think it's more useful to incorporate Telfer than Spittal.

But given Mcnamara's record, I've no idea what's going to happen or how it'll turn. So long as we compete with their midfield, we'll have a chance.

That's the team most fans would've picked, I suspect. Won't stop them moaning like a Brazzers audition when we get beat though. Which we won't. 2-0.

A very pleasing win. Even if we didn't win, was a good performance, and we are starting to look like a team again.

Bit of luck from time to time, but considering we were put under pressure so frequently from dubious free kicks the ref was so keen to give, we probably deserved it.

Cierzniak was excellent, good in the air, blocked a few times they looked like scoring, and wasted about 15 minutes of time between slow goal kicks and lying around injured.

Fojut dominated Rooney, who did very little. Morris was quite, but solid enough.

Midfield did well, Rankin and Souttar were very mobile and covered a lot of ground. So different from having 2 players camping in front of the defense for no purpose.

Souttar again was impressive in the middle, covering well when needed and moving the ball forward well. Great ball for the goal.

Telfer I thought did quite well, although giving the ball away a bit too much and being a bit weaker in the tackle seemed to annoy a few.

Spittal was doing well until he was injured. Looked confident and hard working.

Muirhead was good first half, faded second half. Good movement and runs again, and held the ball up well. Good goal and seems a good goal threat.

Ciftci was good a bit deeper, so much better with players around him who are able to give him the balls and space he needs.

Ref was so easily conned by their attackers falling whenever touched, conveniently in good positions for their free kicks, which was their main threat.

Overall, if we can play like that again a few times before the end of the season, might even start to feel like looking forward to next season. OF course, playing St Johnstone and ICT will likely kill that.

We rode our luck, but didn't deserve to lose that game. Rado indeed had one of his better games behind a nervy back four that was ok on first balls lumped upfield but dreadful on simple cross field stuff. souttar I thought magnificent but Rankin useless with his use of the ball and seemed more obsessed with chest bumping McGowan than concentrating on getting some accuracy into his passes. Further forward Spittal was performing well until his injury forced him off, Ciftci was busy and strong and had some good flick- ons. Telfer , and, later Connolly, were wasteful with the ball and didn't protect possession well enough; invariably losing the ball in the tackle in areas which enabled the opposition to spark off counter attacks. muirhead took his goal well and showed a lot of energy for an hour, but should have been closer to the shoulder of that donkey Taylor who the sheep actually believe to be good. Scott Smith got about 15 mins on the park and didn't look out of place.

I think we can take points up North over the next couple of weeks but Telfer and Connolly are going to think sharper and protect the ball better, and Rankin' s passing is going to have to improve about 80%.

I didn't like the way McNamara didn't act to shore up the midfield earlier - he got lucky, but I m not complaining at being 8 points ahead of the
Dees. Whether we can get to third place, or even fourth- not convinced. It's not yet time to renew the season tickets.
