We don't see the old weather beaten radgers in management now (apart from in the top flight down south).
SPL clubs (apart fron St. Johnstone) are putting all their faith in the younger ones (and it's paying off in some cases, with Hearts and the great job Neilson's doing there)
Yeez reckon there's any way back for auld radger managers like Caulderwood? Or has that style of management been swept aside by the more grass roots approach of the player/managers?

I'm not sure that there is a strong correlation between the score on the radger index and quality Mulee. granted tangoman and grumps like Jefferies are past their time because they've not adapted their style to the way the game has changed. On the basis that McJanamara fails to learn and adapt, he could reach his sell by date sooner than many of us here think. I'm sure ST will be watching. Whereas Ferguson and Wenger kept (or keep ) learning and they've been high on the Radge index for about a decade.

A lot of older managers, especially been around for a while without huge success managers aren't popular any more with the fans. Can understand from a point of view of the english premier league - a tried and tested manager might be able to keep a team in the league, a younger manager's more of a risk.

Some managers do just seem a bit out of step though.

Apparently a real marid youngster's not any use for our U19 squad at the moment. Despite doing well in the past, Ricky Sbragia says:

Quote:

He's an exceptionally gifted lad but we can't carry him. He can be a luxury sometimes.

"In some cases, if it's going well, he can be a good luxury. And listen, Jack's time will come.

"I've gone for a physical side and runners.

Rather depressing we're side-lining apparent talent for a few u19 results.

Yeah, i saw that by auld Sbragia and he does a good job of being vague as hell. Rambling on about floating about in Spain and being a good luxury. No idea what that actually means. If he has an issue with Harper's location and not being as accessible as the rest of the players for training n that he should say it. He seems frustrated that he doesn't have access to the player but would like to play him, dunno.

Quite. The pair of them are a bit of a rarity in the modern geme. You try to think of current equivalents in the Scottish League n theres auld Alex Smith who moved behind the scenes to pull the strings at Falkirk many years ago. Walt Smith, who had enough and bowed out at the exact right time. Jeffries had success great success Hearts then faded out gradually, Calderwood is out in the wilderness somewhere in the darkest depths of no-mans land.
The auld radger is indeed a dying breed. I think Housty's one of the last ones remaining.
