Reports that MSPs have backed a proposal to give supporters trusts the first refusal to buy their club, should it be for sale.

When you look at the success of some of these schemes, and contrast with the likes of Rangers, it's hard not to see the attraction.

But for me, this fits right in the catagories of something the government should be no place near. There's no right or wrong system, private owners can be good and bad, fan ownership can be good and bad. Having the government try to push one system seems to be of little value, but potentially damaging.

Of course, it may never get much further through the parliamentary system.

Would we be better with ArabTRUST etc running the club?

Not sure about the rights and wrongs of legislation for fan ownership. I'm tempted to agree with you that it's an area that govt should stay out of as there can be so much variation between how different clubs of different sizes are run.

Dundee are hardly a glowing example of fan ownership, and the only thing I would have enjoyed more in the ongoing Rangers fiasco would have been the fans running the club. That could have resulted in deaths.

ETA: hun on hun deaths, so not the really bad kinds of death. I'm not a monster.

Sounds mental. Unworkable, iniquitous and entirely unnecessary. As proposals go, it's nearly as mental as trying to specifically criminalise behaviour which is threatening, hateful or otherwise offensive at a football match -- as if that'd ever happen.

Is Arabtrust still going?
