You don't want to see people cheating whether it helps you or not. It is not a nice part of the game." Brown did not think the match, in which United's Paul Dixon was also sent off, would result in bad blood between the sides at Hampden. "It was both teams wanting to win and I think that is good for the Scottish game," he said. "As soon as you step on to the park, it is a clean slate. Is this guy the real deal? I mean does he think he is perfect?? Seriously he won the ball by going through the man.and nearly broke ciftci leg. Is that fair? |

The full presser is here. And it has led me to go back and watch the highlights for about the 12th time. Here's the boot to cheek. ![]() It's not entirely clear why Brown then went to the ref holding the top of his head, but I guess it's possible his brain's not connected up like a normal person. Whatever, it's a reflex flick in the tangle and it doesn't look particularly premeditated, unless we're assuming Ciftci has ESP. Never a ban under normal circumstances. Butcher gets a good tackle on Van Dijk, who chooses to stay prone for a bit of octopus copulation. That's minor stuff so I won't be surprised to see his red go down to a yellow. Butcher definitely aims a kick at Van Dijk though so, under Gunning's Law, he'll get a two-game ban. Here's the dive. ![]() Or, from the reverse angle .... ![]() So, yeah, he went down a bit late. It wasn't a very good dive. But that's still a foul, right? |

Brown does what Brown always does, which is try to be the hard man enforcer for his team. And he does the role well. He generally makes sure anyone who plays near him on the pitch knows he's there, goes in for every tackle he can and generally tries to run the game. Pretty much what we want Butcher to do. Except Butcher doesn't have the untcouchable status that Brown has managed to earn himself over the years. If we could get someone like that in our team, I'd not complain. |

I was aware of the new guidance on handball, but don't think it changes anything with this incident: I see no intent or unnatural angle in it. We'll have to disagree. Ciftci will obviously be cited now that Scotland's top official has come out and said he should be. I spotted Willie Miller up on the gantry yesterday: he must be impressed that at long last another player has taken over his mantle. |

When the compliance officer has the refs report and thompsons and reviewed the evidence he will exonerate Brown and van dijk, punish butcher and ciftci and connolly and reinstate paton..cause the Celtic captain is always right isnt he?? |

I think when you look at the Man U arsenal game last night, you can see the fine lines. Aresenal should have had a penalty/free kick for slight pull by Rojo on Wellbeck, but Wellbeck didn't really make much of it and he got nothing. Di Maria and Janazi both booked for diving when they tried to win a free kick / penalty after a little bit of contact. For us, Connolly dived, but did what many other players do and trying to make sure they get a decision. Until we've got ref's brave enough to book players for clear dives and give penalties when players don't fall over, it's always going to be a bit messy. |

Well, Nads has indeed been cited for kicking Scott Brown in the head. Two game ban offered unless he fights it. So that should rule him out of all the remaining Celtics matches this month. |

As I said I didn't think there was a lot in it, but he's also not getting any benefit of doubt because he's been such a pap in the past, so it's hard for him to complain that much. He can always appeal again mind you. I'm disappointed that the ref didn't have the balls to come out and say sorry for Paton and it has to go to appeal though. That marks Thomson down much more in my opinion than his shoddy performance on the day. Still, good to see no violent conduct charge for Brown for his two footed off the ground studs up leap though. That would just have been wrong, wouldn't it? |

So, Butcher is in the clear? That's good at least. But for the replay, looks like we'll be down Dixon and Ciftci. Main thing left is whether van Dijk's going to get his appealed. Surely Paton will. |

For me, it looks like he doesn't need to do move his leg towards brown. But he decides to push his foot out towards Brown. Hardly a kick in the head as such, but I can't see him being found anything other than guilty. |

It's odd though, because again looking at that clip it's the least deliberate and violent of any of the actions on display. All the other three players dive in from a few yards away with momentum and reckless abandon. Football's a strange thing sometimes. Edited by Cobardon, Mar 10 2015, 04:15 PM.
