Block them from scoring for the opening 45, and take it from there.
Minutes or seconds?

If I can let a sliver of optimism into my current United slough of despond, we may be better suited to stopping a superior team playing than outplaying a team we think we are superior to.

Not sure that's a strategy McNamara has ever deployed, but f*ck it he must be desperate and knows full well if our current team goes toe to toe with The Celtics we'll get murdered.

I did briefly consider the idea of a reinforced middle, as in:

McGowan Morris Fojut Dixon
......... Rankin Paton
... Spittal Butcher Dow
.............. Ciftci

It wouldn't be pretty. But we can save pretty for the final.

Erskine in for Spittal?

We could go crazy and try Souttar in CM somewhere.

Erskine in for Spittal?
Thought about that, but Spittal did a good job at right back in the 2-1 Celtic game earlier in the season. Also, I don't like Erskine. Not sure why. Random prejudice.

Not sure why so many people think Souttar's lugubrious style would lend itself to a defensive mid berth. Perhaps it would if we played in Serie A, but irritatingly we don't.

I agree re Souttar. Put him in midfield and you lose the benefit of him bringing the ball out from the back and providing an extra very competent presence in midfield.

He may prove to be a decent midfielder, but he has the potential to be a superb footballing centre half.

His cheeks are too ruddy. He looks like a farmer's daughter. Would suit gingham in fact.

If he already has the advantage of surprise by being a ball-playing centre back going on mazy rampages, and he does - that's a given - imagine the added surprise of him being a farmers daughter? The opposition wouldn't know whether to tackle him or show their tackle to him.

We are onto a real winner here. Imagine Scott Brown's consternation!

I suspect Brown would just go for both in the end.

Odds snapshot. Celtic have come in from 1.49/1.5 overnight.

I'm thinking, from a punter perspective, a draw looks reasonable value.

3.30's a good time for kickoff, isn't it? Doesn't mess up the day too much.

Ooh yes, a draw and replay against Those Celtics in March. That sounds perfect. Yes please.

Good for the P&L too.

Seems like Morris is still doubtful, so chances of stopping them scoring have declined a bit, especially from set pieces.

Cierzniak,
McGowan, Dillon, Fojut, Dixon,
Paton, Butcher, Rankin
Dow, Ciftci, Connolly

Can't argue much with that.

Well, our odds have probably improved with the two red cards - I'm sure Van Dijk is more important to them than Butcher, I'm sorry, Paton is to us.
