A nice warm up game for the League Cup final....

Thought before the last few games this would be the most winnable, but not so sure now. Celtic seem in determined mood.

Only thing in our favour is they've got a few knocks as well as GMS and Armstrong cup tied. Commons went off today, and they've what should be a tough game against St Johnstone mid week.

As ever, no idea on the team selection or formation, but if Morris is fit, that'll make a big difference. Otherwise, hard to pick any players on form.

Aberdeen did well today by closing them down and stopping them playing out from the back, Which is not dissimilar to our pressing game when we beat celtic last year. Assume we'll try the same, and that the players will actually be bothered to work hard in this game.

Really gentleman. At the expense of seeming "histrionic" can I point out that the evidence against macnamara continues to accumulate. No tactics. Training according to my spies is going a la Houston. Plus we have a chairman (a man described I heard as unemployable by those who know him well and who is suspiciously close to the club to whom he sold two our best players for an obscenely low price (was anything paid on the side?) who is shafting the team while whining about how we must feel his hurt.

In short, utd fans are having the piss taken by the owners and their employees. How much are we prepared to take?

Ivan! You're back!

Couldn't we combine all three The Celtics game threads into one rolling misery wallow? It seems likely they'll all say the same thing.

Happy clapper alert!

I'm afraid Di putano that I have to disagree with the assessment of ST. Our previous chairman , of course, was excellent and I think his son has tried his level best to carry on that commitment, and has done that whilst generating financial sustainability.

So if anything, he's done it better. I know those of us who saw GMS ' outstanding strike v. The Sheep the other day will feel a bit down at present- partick - ularly after our own team's recent display.

However I think we have to suck it up and try and get behind the team for the next couple of weeks. And the players are going to have to earn the backing by a display far more workmanlike than was on display on Saturday. After all, no one is clamouring to buy them.

To be overly fair to di putano, I've heard the "not employable elsewhere" comment about ST from people that know him well. However, that was several years ago, and while I don't agree with everything he's done (esp selling GMS & GoldenArms before a cup final), nobody can say he's done a job without merit in his time as the #1 at Tanny.

On the evidence of the past six years, if someone told you that ST was not employable anywhere else, would that make you think worse of ST or the person telling you that?

F^^^^^ck, that's a good point by Thed. :'(

At least we should be able to look forward to a period of squad stability where no good players are going to be wrenched out of our grasp just as we threaten to win something.

There's lots of people who aren't employable elsewhere, doesn't mean they're not capable of success when running something themselves. And things aren't too bad right now, but the rest of the season, and start of the next are big tests for everyone at the club.

Chairman needs to show he can deliver success in some form with the financial plan he's got us on.
Manager needs to show he can build a good team from the players he has, which although not exceptional, are still far better than most other SPL teams.
Players need to show they can step up and fill the shoes of those who left, or at the very least are going to work hard to try to reach these levels.

And 2 cup games is a good place to start for all three.

Reasons to own a football club:

A. You have a lot of money, but would rather have a football club to play around with.
B. You have a lot of money and think running a football club is a means to even greater wealth.
C. Your father had a lot of money, bought a football club for reason A, then gave it to you. It might be that your autonomous achievements were unremarkable (perhaps due to a toddler-grade stubborn streak and a fluidity with what others would consider the truth), but your pride burns undimmed. Keeping your late father's business afloat has given you the power and profile that your personal achievements alone would never have accessed.

I've been as critical of Thompson as any pub bore over the last few years. But given the alternative owners for United are options A or B, I think we've been relatively lucky to have had option C.

Naebs, you don't have to look very far from the front door of Tannadice to see there are very good reasons to agree with your assessment.

I noted with incredulity at the weekend that they are over £3m in debt. You'd have thought they would have learned their lesson (twice).

Looks like Citfci will be free to play after all:

Increases our chances of winning quite a bit. Hopefully he's suitably wound up for the game.

Bloody hell! Amazing! What a totally unexpected, massively welcome miscarriage of justice!

[Quietly places a bet on Ciftci to get sent off.]

I'm feeling a bit more optimistic about this one.

I think Celtic losing, seeming tired, having a few injuries, and losing their two best players (well they have started all their important games lately and scored important goals), will have them a bit more vulnerable.

We've also played so badly recently, that I'd hope the players are determined to put on a show, and also get a place in the cup final team.

Block them from scoring for the opening 45, and take it from there.
