Unfortunately (or fortunately) I'll be down south for this one. can't say I'm that bothered, even though it'll be the first one I've missed since '94.

Utterly meh. :dundeefan:

May even make it home before full-time if all pans out as expected.
My first question on confirmation of ticket was "good access to an exit?"

PTBAA.

Fact is, you can make a six-hour-plus round trip to the country's worst stadium to watch us try to lift the Backup Cup by beating Celtic (who've already beaten us 6-1 this season, and also beat us 6-2 last season) while playing without our three best players, two of whom have signed for Celtic. Or you can watch it on the telly.

Kudos to all who are going along. Your dedication straddles masochism and insanity. I won't be among you.

I've got mine in the South Stand upper, so at least I'll have a good view of us getting pumped.

Plan to do a little celebrating before the game to allow me to get home timeously afterwards. May even make it home before full-time if all pans out as expected.
You in Section Q3 then Conan.

When I was in the shop, despite the fact that United (even according to their website) have the South Stand Upper, the nearesrt you can get to the Tunnel, is Q3.

No Q2. Q1 is marked for segregration, which mwans that Sections M1, M2, M3, M4, N1, N2, N3 and N4 ard all for Celtic fans, which means they are above us in the South Stand, as we are in Q1, Q2, P1, P2, and P3.
Aye, Q3.

Not sure they'll be above us though, unless they are doos.

In fact, I don't think I've ever been less enthused by a cup final. Despite what the club tries to tell us about how fast the tickets are going, the numbness whenever I think of our team just now is not in the least assuaged by our very stable bank account. Frankly - who cares?
I think that's pretty much it. I was discussing with my Dad whether to come up the road for it - I have done for all the others, and I can not get enthused for a soul destroying 3 or 4 goal pumping, with the first goal sure to come in the opening five minutes.

Pessimists, eh?

Now, I grant you we've never beaten Celtic at Hampden but we've improved a lot in our showings there from the days of 3 goal humpings...our last two games there have seen us lose after a marathon penalty battle and go out 4-3 after extra time. No reason we can't score a couple at least, even if we always lose two or more.

So, it may actually be an exciting defeat is my point. There, that cheered you up didn't it?

(I'm not going myself).

United beat Cellic at Hampden 3-2 semi final SC replay early 80s. I think Heggie scored the winner.

I was at that game! I had 1979 in my mind, but you're probably right that it was 1981.

This is unacceptable, Naebs.

Of course its illogical. Logic suggests that we should all support Celtic because they are virtually guaranteed wins. That's why supporting United is so good because the emotional surge from any win is greater than anything the 'tics will ever feel going forward. Look at them today- salivating over the fact that they're playing on the same pitch as Inter this evening, in the hope that they get that same surge from an unexpected win- or even a draw- or narrow defeat.

Their victory on 7th March just won't feel like a triumph at all. Ours will- isn't that alone a reason for coming ?

See, I thought that game was at Celtic Park. Fair enough though.

Doesn't that mean we have even more cause for optimism? :ban:

Accept it, Calico.

Had we not cashed in GMS for a shitty £200k before tax, I'd be no more optimistic but considerably more enthusiastic. But I'm not, and refuse to fake it.

Of the last 76 games against Celtic, we've won five times. No victories were away from home and none was by more than a one-goal margin. They, meanwhile, have put four-or-more goals past us 17 times (ie. in 22% of games). Away from Tannadice, they score four or more goals about 25% of the time. We'd need all our best players to turn around those kind of odds, which is why it's so dispiriting that our two best players will be sitting in the stands in Celtic tracksuits.

Of my many trips to Glasgow for Celtic games, the only one I remember is the Scottish Cup game at Parkhead where we were 0-1 up until the 89th minute and still lost 2-1. I remember that game because it was so ridiculously bleak it felt like satire. All the others have become a blur: we either lost a by bit for unjust reasons or lost a by lot for crapness reasons. Do I need another game to disappear into that blur? Not really. Certainly not when the cost of attendance is to waste an entire weekend.

I'll be watching on the telly, though reserve the right after 3:15pm to switch to Murder She Wrote.

1. It's not impossible that when Celtic agreed to buy Armstrong and GMS, included in the price was a gentleman's agreement to throw this game.
2. The Kelvingrove has an Alasdair Gray Retrospective, though I think it'll be finished by the time of the final. Best phone ahead to check.
3. If you were being chased by a tiger, that tiger would probably be scared off by the large crowd around Hampden.
4. It helps support the local economy when you give a young gentleman £1 to watch your car.
5. You might meet Lorraine Kelly, but probably won't.

5. Or Ricky Ross. In fact, I can't seem to get away from the cunt at away matches in Glasgow these days.

I'm going because there's little point in me turning up week in week out to watch games against ross county and st johnstone and then not to go to the finals we get to.

Ok, it's a trek with a likely unhappy ending, but a social day out.

Come the start of the game, sure will forget all about GMS and Armstrong and get into the game. Unless they're sitting in front of me.
