What's everyone making of McGowan so far? Right back or just biding his time until we get a proper one and he moves into the centre?

Maybe he'll move to the centre at some point, he reminds me of Kovačević when he was fit, big strong, good in the air and decent going forward (though he's never going to be as attacking as someone like Spittall). So if we are to play someone as attacking as Dixon at LB, he'll give us a good balance.

I think of that as lop-sidedness. And don't like it.

For years I suffered Wilson playing as an advanced right back whilst whoever was left back cowered further back. It was rubbish, and the opposition had no problem at all dealing with it.

One of Paton's strong points is that he fills back into positions vacated by full backs, so I think we can let our full backs get forward in a planned way.

Will be interesting to see if Dixon is still as attacking as he was.

Okay, think more Ivanovic for Chelsea, big, ugly, good defender, but chips in with goals and assists fairly regularly. Bingo. :hat:

Looks like McGowan's been brought in to improve our organisation and defensive stability at set pieces etc, if he does that we'll be a harder team to beat because we'll concede less goals, if he can occasionally be a threat going forward as well, that's a bonus. Kind of like Watson, but better all round.

If Spittall was 6 inches taller and a better defender, he'd be the complete RB, he's not and we can't afford to buy Ivanovic, so I'm willing to see how things go with McGowan in the meantime. It can't be any less attacking than having Dillon at RB? ;)

ETA: Of course playing McGowan at fullback would work much better when we have a ball playing CH like Souttar playing, when Fojut and Morris are playing it could be a bit stollid…. :ermm:

Still early days. I don't think he's fully match fit yet. If required he would Be a decent stand in CB with Dillon moving to RB . At present he's not as quick as I thought he might be but maybe that will come with full fitness.

If he were to replace Morris in the centre, I'd not be displeased. The squad does rather lack a nippy right back though. Can Spark play that side? He's looked okay in brief cameos.

I think that's a bit harsh on Morris. What I like about Morris is he knows his strengths and plays to them. He's strong against opponents, and no-one gets an easy game against him. But he doesn't try to over complicate things or do things he really shouldn't.

Without him, we look much more vulnerable.

McGowan might be a good players (I'm still to see him), but while we need him at right back, I'm happy to leave Morris in there.

I like Morris, but there is no doubt he has one absolute clanger in him a game. Such as his bullet header at Rado on Saturday!
