It's funny.
I remember Pernis having the same accusations levelled at him.
And Zaluska, who is now lamented as a bench warmer, being referred to as Flappy Z.
All good keepers, with the only constant being a ropey defence in front of them.
In short, Czersniak may be wobbly but he's doing the best he can behind a defence that, oftentimes, resembles the proverbial spilled box of Maltesers.
True, that. The other criticism that stays no matter what is distribution. "He cannae kick straight. He throws too early. Or too late. He's a puddin'. Punt this c*nt an' let's get thon Gianluigi Buffon signed." Etc.

One of my favourite football stories is when Aberdeen signed Theo Snelders to replace Jim Leighton. He's being introduced to the team at training, shaking hands and making pleasantries. Then along comes Willie Miller, who goes straight past Theo and says to Alex Ferguson: "Does he know English?" Yes, says Alex, he's fluent in ... "Just make sure he knows the English for 'stay on your f*cking line'," says Willie, and walks off.

That's totally irrelevant, of course. But I like the story. Good morning.

Derek Stillie used to get a torrent of abuse for staying on his line. He never missed a cross in his career at United because of it, never a flap, not even a flutter, yet a good third of the United faithful ostensibly hated him for it. OK, it was probably more to do with having the nerve to have played for Aberdeen and also studied for a law degree.

No goalkeeper comes for and gets every cross. It's f*cking difficult. The best I hope for is that when they come for a cross they make such a performance of it that any appearance of contact results in a free kick to the goalie. Plus it's exciting seeing a keeper launch themselves at a cross. Especially if they punch it.

I like Cierzniak. He's an excellent keeper who does well with most crosses whilst being an excellent shot stopper. He was a bit unlucky, a bit caught out a couple of times at the end of last season, but other than that I've no idea what people who have it in for him expect.

[pedant]Alas, Alex Ferguson left Aberdeen two years before Snelders joined.[/pedant]

Ah. That explains why he doesn't mention this anecdote in his autobiography.

Alex Smith, was it? Whatever. The point is .... [trails off into rambling incoherence]

ETA: meanwhile, the special needs team came back from a dodgy Celtic penalty to draw 2-2. Clear proof that MacNamara needs to take a long hard look at himself and apologise for his lack of a Plan B because ... [trails off into rambling incoherence]

I'd have a complaint in first thing Monday morning about Celtic playing their reserve team this afternoon anyway. We could have done with that last week.

Celtic [...] are probably a decent bet against Malmo.

ETA: Maribor. Mallorca. Malcolm Muggeridge. Whatever.
Can I just note that's me betting zero for ten this season. I've become the perfect reverse indicator. I should go hedge myself.

They really should have won it though, had a few good chances to score. But make mistakes and defend poorly and it'll cost you, even against average european opposition.

Really has been a gradual decline in standards at Celtic for a while, but even with that, I expected them to go through tonight.

I blame united and Cierzniak's incompetence in particular for instilling that total complacency into Sellick through that abject performance a couple of weeks ago. #Jackiemacout
