Hello all, I am student who is studying towards a MS.c in Business and Management. As part of my course, I am to complete a project on the marketing on the SPFL. To do so, I am looking for the input of Scottish football fans on various themes, listed below, re the SPFL. If you would like to post any comments, regarding one or more of the themes, it would be much appreciated. Themes: 1. How do you view the standard of the product For example: - do you think the players/facilities/coaches are good enough? - is it too predictable/not enough variety? -not exciting enough? - is the absence of Rangers/Hibs/Hearts going to affect the top flight? -does it represent good value for money? 2. Has the rebranding/restructuring of the SPFL made any initial differences For example: -does the logo and league structure differentiate SPFL from competitors? (is very similar to the English set up) -will Scottish football become improve or become more competitive? -any issues re number of teams/schedule/winter breaks etc 3. Following Scottish football For example: -is Scottish football under exposed in the media? -is the product accessible enough (any issues attending, such as price of tickets/travel) 4. How would you improve the SPFL Thank you for reading! |

The rebranding of the SPFL is a pile of auld pish, a lazy attempt to repackage a flawed product by blatantly stealing the name from the thriving equivalent south of the border. The league bosses thought this would be sufficient, I think they assume football fans are morons, they must have seen some of the neanderthal types in the stand during a match and thought ''We can fool these animalistic brutes easily, look at them, they stink, ad what of the swearing and being laddish, very cliche, they are absolute vermin'' and while 80% of them are, there is the minority who can see through the leagues shitty marketing ploy as a pile of absolute pish and remain unimpressed by this supposed reinvention of the wheel by fat ugly overpaid beasts in suits. I could not give a hoot for any attempts to try and spruce up the same product, i want to watch the game. And I want to see underachieving gutter trash out of the top league in order for the quality to improve. Not stealing the name of the English Premiership and acting brazenly as if innovation has occurred. It's like Deal Or No Deal trying to claim it's anything other than a shitty random guessing game dragged out for an hour thanks to the bantering charisma of chav scum standing behind boxes like they have any influence on the outcome ''Oh, whats that 20p? Oh come here and give me a hug, you're my hero'' |

For is the absence of Rangers/Hibs/Hearts going to affect the top flight, it's more interesting to see them battle it our over a even(ish) playing field, than it will be to see Celtic win again in the premiership. I can understand why tv / radio are focusing on that at times, it's one of the most interesting stories in scotland for a long time, and, unless someone does something magic, someone's got to lose out on promotion. I'd probably rather watch rangers / hibs / hearts vs each other or championship side than watch killie vs st mirren. It's a break from the norm, which tends to be one of the downsides of the scottish league, in that it's often predictable or meaningless. Other than that, what mule said. |

Thanks for your comments! I could not agree more, the new SPFL "rebrand & restructuring" was a poor effort and those that saw it through aren't worth a bean. After all, it was supposed to bring money into the league and it still goes unsponsored. Would you say that the branding of the league is not important then? And despite the leagues predictability of the top flight & an all round poor standard, your still happy to attend matches? If so why? Again, thanks for your help! |

Don't think they even made a particular good job of the Logo. If they'd made the lion's head face to the right, it more or less would have resembled the letter "S" and could have been incorporated into the initial character of the word SCOTTISH.

I like the logo. I like that the lion's having a nibble at a Quaver and finding it a bit too salty. Does it make any provable difference to my spending patterns? No, of course not. That's the central problem with marketing: it's bullshit. Marketing is the quack science branch of economics. Beyond a couple of discretionary spending sectors, the effect of marketing's so unquantifiable it becomes indistinguishable from nonsense. You're wasting your life on this bullshit, Shakey. Chuck the nonsense and go learn to be something useful, like a dentist or a structural engineer. But first, tell us what you're bloody wearing. |

Heather Andrews was cold the way she signed off without a goodbye before Naebody got the chance to do the old Rolf Harris routine (what are you wearing/bear hug/hand down the scants). His demeanor suggests he isn't going to let this one slip away from him so easily. He'll hone in on the vulnerability of any shaky person in much the way Savile did at Leeds hospital. |

If a quack science has its own branch of quack science, does that make the branch actually credible and accurate? Lucky you included the quaver thing or that would have been the most mental post ever. |

Like many other things, Marketing these days seems all about the data. Measuring actual impact is a bit easier when everything is trackable via the internet. |
