Yeah, i think you're overthinking it, i think McCall is one of the more gracious manager's on the scene, pretty sure he wouldn't go down that road, as I recall he was very gracious in the 4-0 beasting last season and just admitted that it wasn't their day and their was nowt they could do about the Utd machine that day. Now if it was a Butcher or one of those more animalistic coaches you could be sure that comment was oozing with snideness, this was just McCall re-iterating the financial constaints at the club as he has done since he took charge. I don't think he dwells too much on bad games and just moves on to the next game, whereas there are other managers out there consumed by bitterness at individual games (and it often leads to their unravelling and downfall).

Interesting comment from Stuart McCall here about how much Bilate may be earning at Tannadice. Is it just me, or is there some form of bitterness in what he says? A kind of "positive disparaging" by hinting we're maybe paying him too much. There's something about his turn of phrase that bothers me.
Sounds to me just like he's getting the expectations and excuses in early for his team, they have had to make a lot of cut back past couple of years, so he's probably not having an easy time searching for bargins, while we're seemingly a bit more free with the cash.

Hopefully we're not paying too much for him though, like most signings, he's a bit of a chance.

Also, Motherwell's basic wage will be no where near what ours is. I'd be surprised if they are paying more than one or two players more than £2K/£2.5K a week basic. So I'm not surprised Bilate would be out their price range.

I guess you guys are right. I wonder what Bilate is earning though. £1000 per week. More?

I don't care. Beyond observing he's better value than Goodwillie was last year, I'm reckoning squad budget management's up to the chairman. Don't give a fuck about who's paid what. There's a reason all companies keep this stuff private.

In that context, McCall's comments do come over a bit petulant. The inference is that they only lost because big-spending United can afford to bring in the mercenaries. Given all 11 clean SPL clubs are basically in the same boat, financially speaking, that kind of stuff is a bit Lord of the Flies.

ETA: hey, just remembered. During Tommy McLean's Scandinavian import phase, United were offered Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but rejected because his agent wanted a fee of about £150,000. The following season he scored 20 goals for Man United. Can't find any record of the story online but 99% sure it's accurate. So to summarise: shit happens. Suck it up, Lion-O.

Bilate interview on Arabzone is worth watching. First, he claims quite convincingly that the first touch that gave him space to biff the shot was intentional. Second, he speaks very well. For some reason, I'd not guessed that a Russian-born Dutch 23 year old brick shithouse would be both articulate and (seemingly) levelheaded.
Just think.
We might have ended up with that miscreant, Kr*s Bo*d...
