2 wins out of 2 would be good, but think it'll be a tough game. Although we've beaten them a lot last year, as the aberdeen game shows, things change. Think similar team will start again, and we might sneak a draw. |

After the overcautiousness comes the overoptimism .... Motherwell don't look great shakes on paper, have a few injuries, are light one striker and needed luck to beat St Mirren over the weekend. They've lost Hutchison and signed someone's brother from Alfreton Town. Their goalkeeper couldn't break into the Dundee team and was once understudy to Clangers. Meanwhile, all we've done is de-Gunning'd the team that put five past them in April. 20-0. |

I don't understand why they're even bothering turning up to be honest. What would happen then? 3-0 WO? I'd take that if I were Well. |

A dark day for United as the crumbling of Jacmanackrie's folly begins. Nil-Five to the Steelmen Machine. |

Highlights showed Motherwell struggling with St Mirren's quick passing game, so I'd expect us to get some joy from this game. 2-0. A goal in either half. Dow. Fojut. |

Decent performance, not our best, but correct result in the end against a tough to beat team who had the odd threat. Motherwell were largely reliant on set pieces of direct play, their team seems to have added a few giants in the close season for added impact up front. Pleasing to see the defence get another clean sheet, and colletively play well. Waston was probably the weakest link, not great going forward and caught a couple of times. Paton did well there when Watson was removed. Morris and Fojut were similar, strong in the air, good positioning, and decent in possession, if the odd mistake. Fojut did well against Sutton mostly and certainly likes attacking the ball. Both seem confident and willing to take the ball too, which is good. Townsend was solid also, rarely beaten and make the odd decent run forward. Midfield was ok, but didn't really get into full swing until later in the game. GMS was best player in first half, winning a lot of fouls as usual with direct running, and their left back didn't appear in the second half. Faded a bit, but overall probably out biggest threat. Armstrong had one of his mid range game, tidy enough most of the time, but not dominant. When he started to get forward with intent and thread things together, things started to happen. Ciftci must need a few more weeks to remember who his team mates are again, but started off looking invincible, winning the ball and beating people with ease. Bilate has a threat about him, as was shown by the goal, think needs more games to get his touch, but he can move with the ball and is strong enough to keep it, so hopefully with fitness comes even more. Telfer not on long enough to do much, same with Erskine. The same man who hates armstrong still in the same seat behind me. Ref was ok, didn't give too many fouls to Sutton thankfully. Overall, good hard fought win that could have easily been a draw had we not kept at it for the whole match. |

Bilate interview on Arabzone is worth watching. First, he claims quite convincingly that the first touch that gave him space to biff the shot was intentional. Second, he speaks very well. For some reason, I'd not guessed that a Russian-born Dutch 23 year old brick shithouse would be both articulate and (seemingly) levelheaded. |

Took us 6 games to amass 2 wins last season in our customary slow start. Encouraging signs. The Celtics next... |

Took a while to get going against a stuffy well organised Motherwell side. The Bastard in the Black didn't seem to like Armstrong very much. Blew for a foul any time stretch put in any kind of a challenge and flashed a yellow which I thought was undeserved. Good to see a United side kick on after half time and come onto a game. The goal was class and certainly shut greetin puss (who I discovered has renewed his ST and sits two rows back from me in the GF Lower ) up.Onwards and upwards United. Good crowd last night 8,300 or so with perhaps only 200 Well fans in there. |

Ooh, if only 200 Motherwell fans, that is a really good crowd for us midweek v Motherwell. Dunno how many 'Well fans I expected mind. 200 probably not bad for them on a Wednesday. Here's hoping a lot of those 2000 extra folk make it a habit. |

When half time came, I thought this might end up a 0-0 draw, as Motherwell offered zilch. 2nd half was excellent and very entertaining. IIRC Motherwell were only in our box about twice from a free-kick, and a couple of corner. Though they did have a goal that was Well offside. Paton was superb at right back. Clever little pass by GMS to Super Mario who then beats 3 men then wallop it into the top-left. Shifty/Super Mario seemed to work well up front. Although Shifty had a couple of pots at goal, still think he hung onto the hall too much maybe in his mission to score his 1st goal, Once again he was isolated in the 1st half. Some lovely neat footwork from him though, and his skill in controlling the ball down from aerial passes is Jaro seems use his head more than his feet to clear the ball. Excellent marking and defending, and great to watch against Sutton who was his usual pr1ck self. Townsend made some good clearances away from the left esp. the corner area, including some nice turns/dummies while running up the left wing himself. |

Hello again. Interesting comment from Stuart McCall here about how much Bilate may be earning at Tannadice. Is it just me, or is there some form of bitterness in what he says? A kind of "positive disparaging" by hinting we're maybe paying him too much. There's something about his turn of phrase that bothers me. In saying that, I'm tired and have probably read way too much into what he said. I like the term "positive disparaging". Think I'll use that as often as I can from now on, even if it does make no sense whatsoever. |
