van Gaal does like his dramatic statements, even if Krul was rubbish at penalties, specifically bringing him on must have have an impact.

Although not as much as the waving and shouting and generally being as irritating as possible tactics by Krul. Still, he'll take the criticism if they win.

After Costa Rica beat Greece on penalties they admitted they had practiced penalties and studied what Greece's goalie would do beforehand. Subbing their goalie might have been just to screw that up, which would be a much smarter move than just picking a slightly bigger goalie.

Greece's goalie was a timewasting buffoon. Surprised he didn't a second yella against the Costa. Far worse than Suarez's antics.

Well, that was a touch unexpected. Very enjoyable though.

Glad to see Klose get the record world cup goal scorer, deserved.

Bloody hell. I figured Germany by 2 or 3 tonight but didn't see that coming. Germany did what they had to do but Brazil were pathetic...they barely put in a tackle, didn't close down at all and barely looked interested until after half time.

That goes down as the biggest shock in World Cup history, I'd say.

Haven't thought much of Brasil throughout the tournament, but that was outstanding. They were horrible. Gutless. Indisciplined. Arrogant. Cowardly.

Germany did well. Could have scored a few more, too. Can't say I was particularly happy to see Klose become the highest scoring player ever in World Cups. A very unremarkable player who isn't even a particularly clinical finisher and adds nothing to the team apart from goals. But still. Goals. Well done I suppose.

Quite a memorable experience watching Brasil lose 7-1 at home.

Can't see past Germany to win the final, although I could see it being a very very stodgy affair with a lot of nastiness if it's against the Netherlands.

It's partly because of that I think it was good he got the record. He's not a superstar or someone who'll be mentioned in the same breath as ronaldo, messi etc, but he's managed put down a pretty good achievement and will be tough to beat. It's not a vote of being the best player, but best at scoring, it gives more people a chance.

Better than than ronaldo or messi winning the Ballon d'Or for the 6th time where it's more like a fashion or best advert award.

I didn't really care who won last night but, according to Mrs. reekie, as the fourth goal hit the net my hands moved to my open mouth and I said, sadly, "Oh no...".
Never like to see a team being humiliated.

Except them, of course.

Argies seem a safe bet. If i were you i'd probably stick a few quid on Arngentina the noo. A few decent penalty takers in their team.

Don't get me wrong, watching a team get pumped is brilliant.
That was brutal though, given the circumstances.

You've got to love the BBC visualisation of Kose's goals in the WC Finals:

(his Brazil goal from approx. 7 yards isn't included in the image above)

Yeah, loved that graphic myself. Longest range effort was from the penalty spot.
