Of course the best thing about Fred is he looks exactly like his 1970's tv namesake:

That aside, enjoyed the game, not just because I had Neymar as my fantasy football Captain.

I take it I'm the only one who thinks that pulling someone back by their shoulder in the penalty box is a foul then?

And yes the schedule is very working parent friendly.

Pull is a strong word for it, more a placement of hand.

So: selling Spain at 8 and buying Italy at 28.
Well, that Spain short looks to have been a stroke of fortune. ~70% return already. Just need a hapless England performance tonight to help out the Italy long, which currently stands at a very generous 30.

Holland-Spain was great, of course, but so in its own way was Chile-Australia. Providing you can tune out the commentators droning on about "quality", there's a lot to enjoy in two mediocre teams giving their all.

No idea how these things work but can you collect now on Spain? May be advisable because if Da Silva had made it 2-0 before halftime they may well have gone on to win against a more than decent Netherlands team last night. Think Da Costa will only get more dangerous as his fitness continues to improve and his teammates get used to his runs, so wouldn't be writing them off just yet?

Chile-Australia game was mad, Chile looked excellent early on and it looked like they were going to hammer them when 2-0 up. Did the heat do for them? I must have watched a fair chunk of the 2nd half through my eyelids….

England look like they should be able to hurt urugauy or costa rica if they play as they did tonight.

Italy might grind their way through also.

Spain now 14.5 to buy and Italy 21 to sell. So that's me hit the cash-out point of doubling my money. That was fun. See you in 2018, everyone.

Thought England looked ordinary. People seem encouraged that they were direct and tidy with more application than the usual England side, but that's only really an advantage if they're going to be playing previous England sides.

That official FIFA fantasy World Cup is easily the single worst fantasy tournament I've ever experienced. Terrible user friendliness coupled with unclear rules, arbitrary scoring methods and the lack of being able to see how anyone else in your league is doing - oh and it makes you sign in to each league every time - conspire to make it fitting that it's sponsored by McDonald's. Pathetic.

As for England, they may get through the group yet, but it doesn't seem one of the better groups so you'd be surprised if they got much further than round two. Is Baines the most overrated left back in the world? (Good going forward, mind).

Yep. It's not great compared to the all singing all dancing EPL fantasy game most people are used to....

I've decided to try to learn to live with it's inconsistencies and enjoy it all the same, and it's made me have a bizarre focus on players achieving "retrieved ball" points, which is a novelty at least....

Compared to the game in the Euros 2 years ago, I thought England were unrecognisably better and Italy were probably marginally worse. Which given Italy are probably only in the 2nd tier quality wise at this tournament and managed to win without getting out of 2nd gear, is a bit of a worry for England....

Raheem Sterling's some player though.

I did think that there was no way Ashley Cole would have been so overrun during that Italy game as Baines was.

Interesting debut of goal-line technology on a crucial decision last night.

Aside from Jonathan Pearce getting thoroughly confused, it seemed to work rather well in indicating whether a goal had been scored or not.

Apart from doubts that the ball did actually cross the line. I don't think it did, having looked at the Guardian's along the goalline angle.

It seemed to work perfectly, except for the decision to show the 'no goal' without mentioning that there was a second incident that was a goal.

Although Pearce also got confused by the fact the ball needs to go in the net to be a goal. Anyone who needs Keown to tell them what's happening needs help.

Pearce was an absolute hoot after that incident.
Props to Keown for remaining so calm in the face of such buffoonery and explaining it slowly to the poor man.
I'm not getting into a debate about whether it was a goal or not.
Chiefly because it clearly was.

It doesn't seem finished, it's like they ran out of time and have the core there, but had to leave out much of the league aspect. Maybe will add soon.
