The Celtics are quite fortunate that Clarke is still without work as I'd thought he was very highly rated down south. Although maybe he's in that David Moyes managerial netherworld of wanting a bigger club but only being offered smaller clubs. |

Wait! Ronny Deila, Stromsgodset head coach, comes out of nowhere to trade at 1.6. All other markets priced at 10 or wider to buy and no-bet on the lay. Manager succession markets are my new favourite thing ever. Stromsgodset. St Romsgodset. Strom's God Set. |

Huh? What do you mean - you're finding odds at 1.6 then looking frantically for slow to change odds much higher then balancing the two bets off against each other? Any betting beyond the simplest are a mystery to me, although I did once meet a smelly gentleman who spent his entire day in his bedroom as a "Sporting Arbitrage" professional, turning over £3m+ per year at £60k+ profit. So that's the only example I can think of, which he provided me with, to explain how people play betting markets. |

Yeah, you can arb market inefficiencies for small guaranteed profit. But, as you observe, that's for smelly people working in their bedrooms. Without risk, what's the point? Where's the edge? It's just money, and money's really not important enough to become smelly for. My preferred strategy is to lay favourites on the assumption that the punters are probably wrong. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. In this case, the daily rotation of guys falling from certainties to 1000-1 chances mean it's been an absolute hoot. |

Looks like Ronny Deila is the man for celtic. Interesting appointment, I think it makes sense. He can try to prove himself to win more things and do well in europe, while Celtic can save money. |

Bring on the "Deila no Deal" puns. And a fair few "well lubricated, homebaking" ones as well. ETA: Actually, screw that it's pronounced Dial'a, still, punsters get cracking. 'Deila a piece of this action' etc I'm quitting while I'm behind.... Edited by Morvant's Finest, Jun 6 2014, 04:37 PM.

As in, Dial-a-Taxi? Or Dáil Éireann, the Irish parliament? |

As in Dial a Taxi according to the BBC, who I presume should be in the know. Pronunciation aside, the 'budget option' clanger is sounding and it's a bit of a gamble for the Celtics, Wolves and Cardiff tried out young promising Scandinavian Managers in recent years and it didn't go well. |

Cardiff are a bit of a special case, i think think Solskjaer will do well in the longer run. He'll have money and a bit more time at least for this season. |

Oh I see. Once we've exhausted potential puns regarding his unfamiliar name we're grouping Scandinavian managers as if they're all somehow the same? Why not mention Harri Kampman and Ebbe Skovdahl while we're at it. Oh, I did. So that's done. Onwards! |

In managerial terms all the Scandinavian leagues are the equivalent of the Eridivisie for goalscorers, anyone who's ever done well there will massively underachieve in British football. The facts don't lie (apart from Suarez of course.....) |

Van Hooijdonk, Gilhaus, Van Nistelrooy, Van Persie. Have the exceptions proven the rule yet? |

Different homegrown exceptions, was thinking of the cliche of the top overseas performers like Kezman, that Brazilian dude Boro paid silly money for etc. Of course Wilfried Bony is another one to disprove the trend as well.... |

Anyone else rather disappointed by Terry Butcher's sacking at Hibs? I quite liked him - he seemed a decent guy unafraid to speak his mind, and he's got a great record at Motherwell and Inverness. Aside from the obviously calamitous decision of miscalculating how likely Hibs were to be relegated before telling half his squad he thought they were shite and would be punted ASAP, isn't he worth persevering with? It's not as if he's needed any money at all when at previous clubs. |
