Hm.
Yesterday's Record had a bit tacked onto the end of the Forfar match report saying we'd do a deal in the next few days.
Curious...

Tully says a striker's agreed terms. Name doing the rounds (and unconfirmed) is Mario Bilate, who's 23 and Russian/Dutch and 6ft 3 and previously at Sparta Rotterdam. There's a clip of him doing a Duncan Ferguson-ish overhead kick that you can go find yourself, frankly, since I'm not your bloody slave.

Oh, bloody hell. Here he is then. But there's also a suggestion he's now Shota Ameobe, or possibly Shola Ama. Either seems equally plausible.

Now excuse me, I've got this weird craving to buy loads of Nike trainers.

Looks like we've signed him.

Quote:

Dundee United today announced the signing of striker Mario Bilate, subject to international clearance. The Russian born Dutch 23 year old joins on a two year contract, from Sparta Rotterdam.

Manager Jackie McNamara said, "I am extremely happy to bring Mario to the Club. He will bring a different dimension to our attack. He is strong, tall and quick and is at the right age to progress his career. Just like Brian Graham was.

"Mario knows the players are developing here and wants to be part of that. We want the Club to grow continually and with this signing we have enhanced our squad and improved our striking options."

Mario said, "This is a wonderful opportunity for me. United play attractive attacking football and the Club will help me improve as a footballer.

"I am looking forward to showing what I can do. Scottish football will suit me and I want to play a big part in moving the Club forward."

Does it rhyme with latte? Or dilate?

Nephew in Rotterdam tells me it's pronounced "bill at", but I prefer Super Mario.

God, were close seasons always this dull? I'm bored.

Just to pass the time, does anyone care to have a punt at the optimum starting 11? I'm guessing GMS is off very soon, in spite of protests otherwise, and that Robertson stays for another six months.

So, XI:

.................. Cz
Watson Fojut Souttar Robertson
........ Rankin Paton
.... Dow Armstrong Ciftci
...... ....... Bicurious

Understudies:

. ............... McC
Wilson Dillon Morris Spittal
.......... Petrie Fraser
.... Connolly Telfer Smith
.............. Graham

Unless I'm mistaken, that leaves Kudos, Butcher, Erskine, Gardyne and all the yout's. As things stand, we shouldn't be overly worried about an injury crisis.

Not sure where he's played pre-season, but I was hoping Spittal would be a good attacking midfield option to liven up the attack. If Ciftci plays up front, that gives us Bilate, Graham as alternate options, with Spittal also a goal threat hopefully.

We've plenty midfielders, so I think it makes sense to keep Ciftci up front.

Also unsure on the best approach for Souttar. It might be easier to settle the defence with Dillon alongside Fojut and let Souttar force his way into the team.

Can't really see a natural replacement for A-Rob in the squad. Do we have any secretly talented left backs I don't know about, or would it be a case of Dillon or Wilson filling in there?

Why not find out what Stuart Duff is doing these days and give him a go?

The crowd are missing someone to boo, unless Erskine gets another 45 mins at some point.

Maybe put Erskine at left back? He's got pace and height and looks a little bit like Duff.
