I do like it when they go to the effort of making a nice video. But not that if you search for his name you get a "Some results may have been removed under data protection law in Europe" notice. Edited by Setenza, Jun 30 2014, 11:01 AM.

Whoa! Now that would be a proper move for the lad. For his sake, I hope he goes. For our sake, I hope he never quite fulfils his potential, maybe has a dark personal secret, and stays with us his entire career. |

Gutted if this happens now. Half expected this in January. Just oot oe the United shop and they're talking about a £2M bid in for Robie as well. Guess it's fae West Brom. The Telfer and Spittal situation makes more sense now. |

They seem pretty certain in their £3m agreed fee statement. If so, he should go, would be good for him to experience different style of football and should do his football a lot of good. |

I think ~£3m, plus a sell-on fee hopefully, for a teenager who wasn't a first pick for a sizeable chunk of last season is fair enough. There's no doubting his potential, which is what Sporting are buying, but I do wonder if he would have been kicked into submission in Scotland. Hopefully we'll see him again in a Scotland jersey in a few years. £2m for Robertson? No ta. Eta - so, the Tele, like the actual, physical Tele has more info. It's an initial payment of £2.2m, which would "quickly rise to £3m" after an unspecified amount of first team appearances. There is also some mechanism where any sell-on clause doesn't expire, with it being reported that United will "retain a percentage of ownership" of Gauld. I thought that was illegal but, hey-ho. Wow, that's a genuine left-field surprise. Agree with what's been said, would be a real shame to lose him so soon but in terms of developing his game it could be a great move for Gauld (and potentially Scotland). I've been disparaging of the concept of a sell on fee in the past (when it appeared to be making up for a poor initial fee in the Souttar to Sunderland deal), but if he does go and the sell on fee works out half as well as Adam Lallana's did for Bournemouth (not bad work for the transfer of a 12 year old!) it could be the key part of the negotiations.
Feck me, have you seen Sporting's 1st team squad: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013%E2%80%9314_Sporting_Clube_de_Portugal_season Algeria striker Slimani is only really a sub... Edited by Morvant's Finest, Jul 1 2014, 12:10 PM.

Fuck a goat. Would be sorry to see him go, but that's a decent amount of money for a guy whose career looks far from a sure thing. So ........... How much would the bank get? And what about the private debtholders? |

Well, that's that then... (from the official site) ETA: So, will the the details of how much goes to the bank and private equity holders ever fully come to light? To be honest if we still had a debt of £3M to the bank all of this deal would probably have gone to clearing the majority of that anyway, so did the recent arrangement really change that much in this transaction? Not sure if that last bit is good or bad news..... ![]() Looking at the pictures behind, no pressure Ryan... Edited by Morvant's Finest, Jul 2 2014, 08:33 AM.

Remember that conversation we had about the odd wording of the debt settlement statement? You remember -- it said the bank would receive between £250k and £4m from future transfers. The catch was that it appeared to guarantee player sales, even though ST insisted it didn't. So: I'm figuring a fee was agreed for Gauld some time ago and the bank was promised a cut. Its normal cut to pay down the principal debt would be 80% or so of any fee so let's assume a haircut on that too, otherwise what's the point? Therefore, let's say between £1m and £1.5m to the bank post tax? That'd bring the debt buyout up to what looks a more sensible level. My main concern now would be whether the bank payback gets whitewashed or whether we remain on the hook for the next two windows, which given Robertson's potential value could make it a very good deal for the bank indeed. We, meanwhile, would have paid nearly £1 in the pound to be in hock to some unidentified smalltime local businesspersons. On an unrelated note, it's a wee bit annoying to lose a potentially world-class player because McLean signed some Uruguayan scaffolders twenty-odd years ago. But hey ho, on we go. |

Finances aside, I think it's a really good to see him make the move. Will be interesting to see his progress, but could see him progress to great things. |

Suppose it all comes down to whether you think we were ever going to turn down £3M (and a potentially massive sell on fee) for an 18 year old who wasn't even guaranteed a starting place in the team at the end of the season. I'd argue that regardless of the debt restructuring deal we're not really a big enough club to be doing that, especially when we're in an era when no-one's able to tie down young players to 6 year contracts any more (well, apart from the likes of Sporting Lisbon...... ).Let's hope the details of the deal means the bank doesn't have any say in the next two windows, and hopefully this transfer will actually help us to be able to turn down offers that arrive in the near future for the likes of Robertson, Armstrong etc. |

It was mentioned there's an upper limit on the bank's income, how far towards that we are we don't know, but they are limited in what they'll get. I agree we're never going to be able to turn down good offers for players, I think this one is a good deal all round. |
