I saw Malaga play for the U20s, he's spanish striker, sure was ex real madrid (at some point). Seems a skillful player, but with a bit to learn.

No idea on the others.

Agree-sad really. That's some turnover on the reserves. Got to trust McNamara judgement and that he will be bringing in some strong CB cover before pre-season training starts

The 2 I'm surprised about are Luke Johnson and Mark Russell. Laidback Luke made s couple oe 1st team appearances last season, and thought that he'd eventually make 1st team. indeed hes listed in the 1st team squad.

Heard young Russell was a chip off the old block so a bit shocked to see him go.

I remain surprised that neither Millar nor Gardyne made it at United. Both clearly have ability and were the two best midfielders in the second tier a couple of years ago while still being young enough to expect some further progression.

Anyway, f*ck do I know.

Off to Holland for a friendly against Utrecht next month, according to Dutch media. Inadequately translated online, it says we're taking a "battering ram" (stormram) with us. Ciftci, that is.

http://www.rtvutrecht.nl/sport/1187456

FC Utrecht plays on the annual open day, at 20 july, against Dundee United. The team ended the season in the Scottish Premiership on devierde place and reached the final of the FA Cup. Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara may have considerable international companies that are suffering during, among whom Messrs Radoslaw Cierzniak (Poland), Gary Mackay-Steven , Andrew Robertson, Mark Wilson (Scotland), Morgaro Gomis (Senegal) and battering ram Nadir Ciftci.

Gavin Gunning signs a 1 year deal with the mighty Blues. Not Sevco but Birmingham City. I've seen them play. Minging. A good fit I say.

Jackie McNamara is on course to land the experienced centre-half he’s been chasing well before Dundee United report back for pre-season at the end of the month.

The Tangerines gaffer is keeping his cards close to his chest until a deal has been finalised but he could have a new stopper fixed up in a matter of days.

“Nothing’s certain yet but it looks like we could have the player we want by this time next week. Time will tell but I am hopeful and we’ve been making progress,” he said.

And while he’s not naming names, Jackie confirmed he’s thrown the net wide in his bid to get a replacement for the now-departed Gavin Gunning.
......................................
“I’ve been looking at players here in Scotland and beyond. On top of players I know about, I’ve had quite a few recommended as well.

“It’s been a case of finding out more about them and making sure in terms of ability and type they are what we need.

“It’s no secret I’m looking for a big aggressive player who will attack the ball in the air and I’ve now got a few options.”

Anyone got any ideas of who we're after?

We've signed Morris!

Who?

This guy!

Quote:

Dundee United today announced the signing of 24-year-old defender Callum Morris. The 6ft 3' Geordie joins the Club after his contract with Dunfermline Athletic expired. He has signed a two-year contract.

Callum started his career at Newcastle progressing through the youth academy and then joined Blyth Spartans, Hayes and Yeading United before securing a move to Dunfermline in 2012 where he made over 50 appearances. He rejected the contract offer available at the end of season 2013-14.

Manager Jackie McNamara said, "We have been after a commanding centre half and once Callum became available I acted quickly to bring him here.

"He is strong, aggressive and the right age for us. Despite interest from other Scottish Premiership clubs, Callum wanted to come to Dundee United and he will be an excellent addition to our team. I am delighted to have signed him."

Callum said, "After speaking to the Manager I was set on joining United. This is a great Club which showed last season that it is capable of producing one of the best teams in Scotland and I want to play my part in improving them further.

"Dunfermline were great for my career and I now want to continue my progress and coming to Tannadice is a great move for me. There are many talented footballers here and I am looking forward to playing alongside them."

I like the fact they chose to highlight the fact he's a Geordie, does that mean he's hard?

No idea who he is, anybody seen him play?

(Skulks off to search for Dunfermline forums online.....)

ETA: Here's the bugger, he appears to come from the 1940's.

(and the DAFC website profile clarifies that he's "(Irish not English as above)"

Seems decent option, time will tell how he fits in. As well as being commanding and a gordie, I wonder if he can pass the ball.

Joey Barton.

So, based on an educated guess ... Is this guy Gunning's replacement? Or Butcher's replacement?
