If this is accurate, and United really did agree a 10% future transfer fee with Queens Park rather than pay £15k upfront, then someone wants shot.

Let's hope some sporting lisbon fans are saying the same in a years time.

It seems Master Robertson was insistent on the stipulation upon leaving Queens Park.
I'm surprised no-one in the press has the ability to read Naebody's posts wit to point out the inherent contradiction in an amateur organisation bitching about not receiving fees, whilst simultaneously dodging tax liabilities.
It all seems to be that nasty Stephen Thompson's fault.
Playing to the hun hordes gallery, perhaps?

Courier read on the internet that Fenerbahce interested in Ciftci.

Quote:

Meanwhile, reports in Turkey suggest Fenerbahce are considering a move for United striker Nadir Ciftci. The Istanbul-based side are rumoured to be preparing a 1 million euro bid for the 22-year-old frontman.

However, if that is the sort of cash figure they are contemplating tabling then it will be quickly kicked out.

Think that would be a poor deal for us and him, another season and he should have developed further still and be more suited to a move upward at the right time.

No doubt confirmation will come in soon.... but the Robertson deal's not done yet...
Quote:

Dundee United defender Andrew Robertson will only sign for Hull if it will further progress his career.

A fee for the 20-year-old Scotland international has been agreed between the two clubs, reported to be £3million.

Robertson only became a professional last year after joining the Tannadice club from Queen's Park and after a meteoric rise it appears only a matter of time before he moves down to the Barclays Premier League.

However the player's representative, PFA Scotland lawyer Liam O'Donnell, told Press Association Sport: "Andy is in talks with Hull.

"Clearly, it's a massive decision for him and he will carefully consider all the aspects of this potential move.

"The most important of these is to try to continue the excellent progress he has made these past 18 months."
Given the club have an experienced Left Back like Maynor Figueroa, who played nearly all their PL games last season, you can understand his reticence.

Didn't the exact same Ciftci story get an airing about three months ago?

While highly unlikely, It's brilliant to imagine Robertson refusing ~£15k a week because he might not get a kickabout. I'd probably celebrate such a show of levelheaded pragmatism by parking a bus outside Hampden with a big banner across it saying "f*ck you".

ETA: secretary, cancel my booking with Moffatt & Williamson.

But we've taken a left back called Conor someone on loan from Hull -- hopefully as cover since that's the most transparent tradedown imaginable.

Whilst we are all gutted to see Robie depart, JMac thinks that his replacement for this Season is OK.

Here's the lowdown on our new loanee LB Conor Townsend from a Carlisle Utd forum (though they may have been being polite to the Utd fan who asked....):

Quote:

i would really of liked to have seen the return Conor, but with playing in a lower league there was no chance.

he is a class left back who has the potential to play even higher up the leagues....excellent ball control that can deceive defenders when attacking. he can also tackle well and has good positional sense.
Quote:

I was hoping we were going to re-sign him as he's a solid, dependable LB. I think he could do well in SPL but don't expect him to be as good as Andy Robertson just yet.

Oh and as a marker for future reference, it's worth noting we've got a similar ability to command a fair fee for our players as a club the size of Sheffield Utd has:

Quote:

Hull City have signed left-back Andrew Robertson from Dundee United and defender Harry Maguire from Sheffield United on three-year deals.

Scotland international Robertson, 20, has joined for a fee of £2.85m, while Maguire, 21, has signed for the Premier League side in a move worth £2.5m.

Robertson missed only two Dundee United matches last season as they finished fourth in the Scottish Premiership.

Maguire, meanwhile, played 166 games for Sheffield United.

He was named in last season's League One Team of the Year and was part of the Blades side who lost 5-3 to Hull in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley in April.

Well at least we have a left back for this season.

Can't imagine we would be comfortable selling Ciftci unless the money gets silly. Over £2m is probably getting silly.

Interesting to see what sort of team we will be able to put out over the course of the season, but at least/sadly we're not in Southampton's position of having a vast mound of money but no players. I wonder how anyone who played regularly for them last season and remains there this season will feel. And f*ck's sake, they only finished 8th.

Jeez, if we do sell Ciftci we're going to start looking like the new Celtic, a place for overseas players to play one season and earn a big move elsewhere soon after!

Re the Saints, my (fairly sad) habit of researching fantasy football options at this time of year has made me aware they've at least signed a couple of decent replacements in Tadic (LM) and Pelle (FW), but it does look like a fire sale for the owners to recoup any funds they've put into the club in recent years....

Still it could be worse, they could be Blackpool....

Time will tell on the Townsend, but as long as he's solid enough, that'll do for me. Defense is going to be a bit unstable for a while, until everyone gets to know each other, it's shame we have such tough openers.

Still, he should be first choice, so time for him to take the chance.

That's going to be a shock to the system, given how solid our defence was last season....

Odd to think that even after selling £5m of players, we still have last year's team in front of the (hopefully improved) back four. That's good, but it's also a bit of a problem. Until Ciftci, GMS and Armstrong are on their way out, it's not easy to see where Bilate, Spittal and Telfer will fit in.

I think Telfer could be a good option in place to Rankin / Paton, depending on their form. They're a solid partnership, but we've lacked any backup or alternatives, which we seem to now have.

The number of games were we've been unable to score, and look to the bench without seeing much to replace Ciftci. That's where Bilate fits in.

Spittal I think is a bit earlier stage, maybe like Connoly, who looks like might get more time this year, while Spittal develops a year behind him. Or overtakes him if he can.
