Ah well. Dow's been outstanding, Robertson good and Nadir very good. Rado's done nothing wrong apart from flogging one, which was extremely wrong. GMS seems awkward on the wrong wing. Armstrong making the right runs but getting bypassed too much. Armstrong for Gauld would be a massive gamble but, on the first half evidence, I'd be tempted to give it a pop for the last 30 minutes. |

And guess which option I had all my money on? Ah well. They were defensively proficient and very lucky when it counted. We weren't good enough in the second half. The switch to 4-4-2 worked for Dow but didn't really do much for Armstrong or GMS, both of whom got lost in a narrow midfield. Could've gone either way, and did. Hope you enjoy your evening, farmers (apart from May, who seems a twat. Oh, and Gunning's an arsepipe who really can't f*ck off soon enough). |

Ah well, it wasn't to be. I think some of the handwringing on the radio post mortem about United not turning up is wrong. Today demonstrates that football is largely a game of chance. And we need a new goalkeeper and two proper centre backs. |

Fair play to St. Johnstone, but by Christ they're a dirty bunch some of them. We, on the other hand, were appalling, didn't deserve to win at all. Gunning was dogshit, just didn't look interested as he hasn't for months. Only Dillon, Ciftci and Dow got pass marks. Robertson was unusually poor, the midfield did nothing and Armstrong was anonymous I thought. At least May was kept quiet by Dillon. Gutted I let myself get my hopes up for that. |

Not sure I agree with you there, Micky. The cost of moving Dow forwards was that GMS and Armstrong moved backwards into what became, in every sense, a very flat midfield. It didn't suit them and anyone who's seen the four-man overlapping attack thing on a good day will have been disappointed. But both Ciftci and Dow played well enough to have won it, so it'd be a bit unfair to say (as I've seen suggested elsewhere) that the tactics were wrong. Robertson, I thought, was good. (Keith less so.) Gunning's got something wrong with his head and that won't change. Overall, though, it was an even sort of game. It'd be satisfying to blame the players or the manager or the ref (who was okay, generally) but it'd also be unjustified. We were beaten because the other lot played well and got more breaks. Hey ho. |

I'm with you Naebs...I thought Robertson was excellent in patches, if exposed occasionally. Either team could have won and barring Rado's brain fart we could have gone 2-0 up just after half time: game over. Was not to be though, but it's not like we totally froze on the day or anything. Learn from this and move on. |

Not too far from one of the expected results. Thought that if JMac played the best squad, and they played their best, then we'd win, but they didn't play their best so we lost. They played fairly well, just not good rjough. JMac has to take some of the blame, well for me anyway, because Shifty up on his own just wasnae working, being against their back line on his todd. Gauldy hardly had much of thd ball when he came on for GMS, because balls were being punted upfront to Shifty. Wasnt a bad game, we had more possesssion 1st half. OK for a neutral. Couple of nearies by Dowser, Shifty off the bar, Graham. More of the same. The difference in St Johnies, was they took their chances, esp. in the predictable cross into the box from the corner. Something we've all been moaning about all Season. Thomson didnae help, giving all the 50/50 decisions to St Johnies, but that's not why we lost. We just simply werent good enough. |

Not sure that's true either. Ref seemed to get most things right except for a run of fussy decisions midway through the second half, which really didn't help us as the game became stop-start while we were chasing it. That was around the May handball though so perhaps he was balancing things out. I'd also note that tougher ref could've sent off Gunning, twice. |

I'd also note that a proper ref would've sent May off once, and that would've been enough. |

Yeah, I checked the rules and was surprised to learn that, while stopping a goal deliberately with your hand is an automatic red, scoring one deliberately with your hand is only a yellow. Makes no sense but there you go. Zico, it'd be an adventure to live inside your head for a day. |

Overall, I thought it was a pretty poor display, we never really got to play anything like the way we wanted, and didn't have anything to offer to overcome their gameplan, which worked very well. Probably most annoying, it was predictable, so why we struggled on for so long when it never felt like we were in control or testing them, I'm not sure. I think aside from Dillon and Robertson, i can't think of many players who played well. They controlled the midfield and our team. Any time our attacking players got the ball, they had 2 st johnstone players to beat, if they got past one, another took their place. We did have a few chances when we managed to open things an up, and were unlucky not to score, but it was one of these games when I didn't feel like a goal was coming. Went a bit flat second half when we should have been throwing everything at them. Didn't think the ref was too bad, except for booking paton and rankin for what I thought was fair, if strong, challenges. Been a good season, so not too many complaints, but I think it's clear were we need to improve next year. |
