Naebs - if we win it'll be United 6 trophies won, Dundee 5 trophies won.

Yes to Dow. Very disciplined positionally and quite sneaky in those inside right/inside left positions.

I'd sacrifice a bit of flair in order to stifle May if we had someone suitable. We don't so I'm all for the all guns blazing four in attack death or glory. I don't care if we get beat either. We're going to see the biggest ever assembly of Arabs.

Would like to see JaMacca talking up the crowd and talking up our players beforehand and saying something nice about St Johnstone and their lovely manager.

Unusually, I can see where Naebles is coming from this time. I'm not too fussed about winning it either, although I'd play Dow anyway.
This is exactly my feeling too.

Unless St Johnstone win by foul means, in which case I reserve the right to be miffed, I'll be quite happy to see them win the cup.

Is it so odd not to hate the opposition?
It's quite odd to not care much whether your team wins a trophy or not. I don't want United to win because I hate St J, I want them to win because... er, it's football.

I'm sure I'll want United to win much more strongly once the game starts, but a lot of the reason I get worked up about a game is that I can't bear the idea of us losing it, and especially not if it's to a rival I don't like.

I've got no problem whatsoever with the Johnnies and quite admire what they've done this season. If we were to lose to anyone in a cup final, they'd be my first choice aside from a lower division miracle minnow team. And even then, the embarrassment factor of that would probably make me want to not lose to the romantic minnow more.

Anyway, the big game in the cup was against The Ibroxers at neutral venue Ibrox. Where were you for that one, Conard? Bloody digging your garden drinking a cup-a-soup, that's where you were, probably.

Perhaps we're all just spent from the semi. I really, really wanted us to win that one. The risk of defeat was not only that we'd go out, but also that Rangers would win. Compared against that, I just can't extract any drama from the risk of St Johnstone winning the cup.

It's a bit like when you beat the end-of-level boss and get through to a bonus round, where you win an extra life by popping balloons or some shit. We're at the balloon-popping bonus round. It'd like the extra life, obviously, but won't be all that fussed if we don't pop enough balloons.

Shut up. That analogy's brilliant.

I see we've got an inspirational song for the cup final.

*Warning, contains scenes you may find unsettling.

So how is everyone feeling today?

I can feel a gradual shift in my bowels from meh-whatever-it's-a-day-out-the-important-thing-is-to-enjoy-it loser mentality to If-we-don't-win-i'll-kill-myself.

The former is still winning, but the latter has the momentum.

If JMac does his best and plays our best squad, and then they play their best, we'll win. if not we won't.

Simples.

Not sure about that, Tombo Land. If Wright sets his team out to primarily stop us, stifle our main creative threat and target our defensive weaknesses, unless McJackManar adapts to this, I think we'll lose.

I've not seen much evidence of our boss changing things tactically when things aren't going well, so I foresee an organised St Johns prevailing by a single goal in a stale game.

I would dearly like to see a couple of the more rambunctious Saintees being booked nice and early due to some positive running from GMS, Stu or Robertson. That might give us a little extra space to play in.

I think it's similar to the Rangers game. We know we're a touch vulnerable at the back, so we've got to take our chances. We've got to attack and set off with intent. We can't let them dictate, we've got to unsettle their defence.

Unlike rangers, St Johnstone will take the chances they're given most likely, so we might need to score 3 again.

For all the talk of our record against them, this season, we've been beaten once by a fluke, once with a reserve side down to ten men, and once with our better team out.

If our attacking players show their quality, we can win.

It's going to be a battle though.

Like you, VVassa, I've found myself fairly sanguine thus far.
Well, until this morning... I'm now properly nervous.
I keep drifting off during work, although equally that may be due to the tonsilitis I'm currently battling.
(Damned antibiotics! No lovely German beer at West for me tomorrow. Grr.)

A few times this season United have started very slowly, playing a very (very) patient posession game.
That's not going to cut it tomorrow. We need to really fly out of the traps and run at their defence. An early goal, or booking, will make things really interesting.

Right. Off for a lie down.

Likewise, I fear a narrow, hard-fought St Johnstone victory.

But hoping for it to be Stuart Armstrong's final.

Anyway, just about to leave so best of luck to everyone here for tomorrow.

Mind games ahoy as Wright says he will name his lineup today, and has been saying how he knows ours.

Quote:

He [McNamara] won’t play his young players: John Souttar and Ryan Gauld won’t play.

I just feel that, when you look at it, Souttar hasn’t done particularly well against us or Stevie May.

Putting pressure on a 17 year old, classy.

Okay, we'll win 1-3 or lose 2-0. I've not decided which yet. Ask me tomorrow.

Eta: Had a dream that Ginger Goalie Kid played, and new signing Dunga was left on the bench to be an impact sub later. This is why it's best to drown out your subconscious with alcohol. Anyway, my money's now on a 3-1 victory. Actual money, 22 to 1. Dow, May, Ciftci, Robertson but possibly not in that order.
