I'd be disappointing if there wasn't a cheaper defender of similar ability on the market someplace we could pick up. It seems very strange to be paying transfer fees.

But Wilson knows the SPL, is a decent player, can cover left back, and is still pretty young.

He would be a good addition, even at that price. However, I would be astounded and disappointed if Hearts let him go for anything other than a silly high price.

Something smells funny here.

I assume Danny wants to leave Hearts post the relegation. But if that's the case, why did he sign a three-year deal for Hearts when they were nearly certain to go down?

Speculating wildly ..... maybe he signed on a contract with a release clause and/or a large proportion of any transfer fee going to him, not Hearts. That might have offered sufficient compensation to revive his career at a doomed club. It'd also make the cash more like a signing-on fee than a transfer fee, which could help explain why we're threatening to open the biscuit tin.

Either that, or we're heading back into "solid gold statuette of Kate Moss angling her undercarriage like a ballistic rocket launcher" territory --- in which case, that'd be regrettable.

Last year of the contract was an option, according to today's Edinburgh Evening News. It also says United spoke to him last summer.

Wilson has another year remaining on his existing contract at Tynecastle, which runs until June 2015. There is an option to extend the agreement for a further 12 months.

Daily Express - large pinch of salt, I know - quoted his salary when he controversially joined Hearts as £1500 a week.

**

And more on salaries at Hearts in today's EEN story about Ryan Stevenson leaving...

Stevenson was unhappy at a clause in his contract stating his salary would be cut by 50 per cent following Hearts’ relegation. Having taken a 50 per cent reduction last summer when the club entered administration, he faced playing for 25 per cent of the wage he agreed upon his return from Ipswich Town in August 2012.

~£80k PA? Is that supposed to be a lot? Or not a lot? Because it sounds not a lot.

Daily Express (July 2013)... It’s understood Wilson has taken a massive hit on his original deal, but could still earn around £1,500 a week at Gorgie.

He was promised the captaincy and would be playing, which he obviously wasn't at Liverpool. He has subsequently said that he had no regrets about going to Hearts because he's in the team.

Wilson has been over-rated throughout his career and this doesn't feel much different. a bad signing if it happens.

One of the papers, I forget which one, says Wilson has a release clause that the £100k offer was not far off triggering. And another paper, I forget which one, says The Rangers want £200k for that out-of-contract kid who's made one sub appearance in the third division. That's the news. Bong.

Telfer to join, says the Courier today...

Charlie Telfer, the player widely regarded as the pick of Rangers’ youth team, will today sign for Dundee United.

The 18-year-old midfielder has decided to swap Ibrox for Tannadice in a move that will see the Tangerines eventually pay a development compensation fee.

The Carluke-born playmaker is a lifelong supporter of the Light Blues and had been offered fresh terms by his boyhood heroes after his contract ended at the end of the season.

However, the fact he is prepared to set sentiment aside and join United for football reasons is a huge compliment to manager Jackie McNamara and his coaching team.

McNamara has been a long-time admirer of the Scotland under-19 international and will sign him as a first-team player despite not being fully established as such at Ibrox.

The transfer tug-of-war between Rangers and United will be won by the Tangerines today when he puts pen to paper on a contract.

A development fee has yet to be agreed by the clubs and if that remains the case an independent panel will be called upon to decide the matter.

The Tangerines are understood to have already offered a fee in the region of £60,000, while Rangers are rumoured to be looking for a six-figure sum.

United are also understood to be on the brink of making a second signing, with Queen’s Park youngster Blair Spittal a likely candidate.

Internet says Telfer is incoming, BBC says Spittal is going down to us or Dundee on who can convince him it's the best club. Surely we can win that argument...

A quick word in his ear from Andy Robertson should suffice.
