A game we'll want to win, but probably more important for Aberdeen who want 2nd rather than us who want a cup.

Unsure if Armstrong's fit, if any doubts, probably not worth the risk.

Should be a good test against a well organised team however. Need to try to play our attacking game.

Wonder if there might be a change or four, maybe El Alagui or Graham starting.

Dont know about starting Graham. Less doubtful ahout Alagui.

BTW for those from near and far who can't attend, the match is Live on Sky Sports.

I think good chance we'll see either Graham or El Alagui. I'd go with Graham to start with, he tends to offer a bit more all round. But El Alagui better at taking the scrappy chances sometimes.

BBC says Rankin and Paton have knocks, while Armstrong is a maybe and GMS has a chest infection. Presume not worth risking any of them.

Squad step up time.

Interesting team selection but surprisingly effective.
Very pleased for Dillon. A counter to get the naysayers off his back.

I've suffered Premier Inn Lauriston Place's piss poor internet long enough.

We don't deserve to win the cup if Scott 'f*cking' Vernon scores a hattrick against us.

Gavin Gunning is a complete cock of a man. Get him gone, please.

McCallum's Utd career may go the way of Scott Thompson's and Craig Samson's on that showing, but at least he's played more than Pat Onstad.

Worst I've seen Robertson too, so sloppy. I would definitely start Dow in the cup final.

Mixed game, some positives, some negatives.

Aberdeen did quite well, their usual orgainsed, robust setup, with plenty of threat from midfield. Deserved to get couple of goals, and it's a bit of a concern going into cup game if we're making mistakes and flogging goals.

On the positive, a team with a few changes created plenty of chances and could easily have scored 3.

Thought McCallum did fine in goal, couple of saves, decent distribution.

Dillon played well at right back, strong in the air and tackle, and well taken goal. Pleased he got that.

Souttar had a predictably tough time against a player who had a physical presence.

Gunning was Gunning.

Wilson and Gomis were largly ok in the middle. Good in possession, few good tackles and interceptions and decent work. But Gomis can still be caught and Wilson is still liable to be booked if anyone runs near him.

Ciftci, Dow and Armstrong all played well, plenty work rate and goal threat. Unusual miss from Ciftci from only a few years out.

Graham was mixed. Good work rate at times, seemed static at others. Good in the air sometimes, poor others. Missed a few good chances, and one excellent one. Really needs to be taking them to be a good team option, and he's looking a bit short.

Ref was fine, but as usual, we need to learn how to win penalties and free kicks. Not Pawlet style belly flops, but making sure we get the decisions we deserve.

Overall, not as bad as may seem.

Agreed. Not the disaster some (*cough* Eastfudball *cough*) might say.
Pretty much spot on, Set.
I like Graham but he's going to have to start taking his chances.
Thought Robertson was good, actually. Plenty drive and didn't get flustered often.
Souttar seems to be regressing. Must do better.
Gunning. Meh. He's off, so not really that bothered.
Dillon was very good, winning most headers and probing the flank, even if his crossing was a bit, um, erratic. Nice goal too.

Ach, it was an experimental team, and system, against a functional Aberdeen side, where we could have won but for a few good saves.
Bigger fish, etc.

I'm not getting the criticism of McCallum.

For the first goal, he might have been able to do better, but not one I'd blame on him.

Goal from corner was very close to the goal and in 6 yard box, but it looked very crowded. And Rado wouldn't have done much better.

I can recall any mistakes or issues.

I agree that the criticism of McCallum is unfounded. He was badly exposed by Gunman for goal 1 and 3 and the corner marking was almost as bad as the sloppy defending that gave it away. Centre back pairing were awful and I'm sure that it can't be my daughter's brush off that's making Soapy's form flop as well. so it must be Gunman's mentoring and on that basis and his defensive concentration, HMS Sevco seems the best place for him.
also agree that Dow and Dillon were our best tonight but I also believe that Jimmy G will soon no longer be with us after that display.
So back to praying for a spectacular return to fitness and match sharpness by Ebineezer for the final.

Great turnout by the sheep btw

Having seen the highlights, I have to be a touch more critical of McCallum, but not overly so. Second goal was probably one that was the worst, seemed to be done by the predictable corner.

And Souttar looks worse on the highlights, could have done better with all 3 goals. Going to be a important start to next season for him.

Interesting to hear Wilson got a game in midfield - the position he seemed destined to have as a career when he first broke into our team. Anyone got a detailed report on his performance?

Didn't even realise there was a game last night. First time in years that's happened.

Judging by the highlights, Clangers had his bi-annual decent game and Dow had a goal chopped off that should've stood. Souttar's 17, an age when everyone makes mistakes. Mine involved Diamond White, the New Fast Automatic Daffodils and Sarah Chipstead. His involve slight mistimings with jumping and kicking. I got better, eventually. He will too.

I think firstly, it's clear he's not the most mobile. So there's little point in dwelling on that. It was clear when we signed him, it's not going to get better. So I think we need to look at his performance aside from that, while not discounting it.

I thought he played well in the role. He's was good positionally and helped to keep our midfield on top once Flood was out of the way. His awareness was good in that he linked well going forward getting the ball into the dangerous players. Unlucky not to score also. I think he's one of these players who does a lot off the ball that's not often noticeable, but is valuable.

Like sometimes at right back, he can get a bit caught dwelling on the ball when he seems to forget he's not 22.

Overall, I think he should play there more for us. It's harder and harder to pick him ahead of Watson at right back, and Dillon was good there last night also. But he can make the most of his positive attributes and experience in the middle. Won't displace Rankin or Paton, but I'd suggest a better option to firm things up than Gomis (who I thought was ok also).

Good game. Could easily have been 2-2 which I think would've been a fair result.
