40 games down, only a few left to go. Who's been your player of the season?

Can't believe I haven't picked out Ciftci at all but overall consistency over the season main driver for me- so its any one from the two holding mids and Robertson

Robertson for me. Armstrong close, but AR probably our most important player throughout the season.

If Good had stayed fit he might have had a chance. He looked really, er, good, and didn't look or play anything like as young as he is.

Rankin's been very important for such a young team. Probably captain next season.

Armstrong's been much more consistent this year and, a couple of times, he's shown he can take a game by the scruff of the neck when we've been toiling.

Andy Robertson has been a real find. For someone who was contemplating his future as a professional very recently, his rise has been remarkable. I think he'll break our transfer record when he goes.

I also think Rankin, Armstrong and Robertson been our best. It's hard to separate them, and they're only just ahead of Paton and Citfci for me.

Rankin has been important for us in so many games, and seems to get better with age.

Armstrong I think is technically our best player, he's important to our team, it's noticeable when he's not there or playing well the impact it has. An extra few goals and he would likely be first pick.

Robertson has done better than I think everyone thought he would, and seems like he could slot into most teams without looking out of place. Next year will be a big on, to see if he can not only keep the standard up, but improve further.

Paton I think is also worth a mention, without him I'm not sure we'd be in the position we are and I think is a much better player than some give credit for.

In terms of impact and match winning, Citfci is also up there in terms of contribution for the season.

Twenty votes cast so far and none for GMS. That's a bit surprising. Okay, he's not had his most eye-catching season (perhaps a consequence of cutting back on the tricks). But in the games I've seen he's still most often the difference between us and them. Of all the players we're likely to lose in the summer, I suspect he'd be the hardest to replace.

It's a tough one, as I think most of the regular first team have been good this season, even Gunning and Cierzniak.

We would miss GMS a lot, pace and finishing will be hard to replace. But I think we've had 5 better players over the season, even if GMS has done very well.

When running down the first choices on the team sheet, I think he's behind my top 3, but still guaranteed a place.

Well, "who's first on the team sheet" is a slightly trickier formula as it incorporates whether there's reasonable backup. When GMS is out, it isn't the complete disaster it might be because we have Gauld and Dow to understudy.

In terms of players I'd really not want to miss the Cup Final, the order would be ...

1. Cz
2. Robertson
3. GMS
4. Ciftci
5. Rankin
6. Gunning
7. Paton
8. Armstrong
9. Souttar
10. Gauld
11. Watson

... whereas judging by performances alone it's more like ....

2. Robertson
8. Armstrong
3. GMS
4. Ciftci
5. Rankin
7. Paton
10. Gauld
9. Souttar
1. Cz
11. Watson
6. Gunning

What possessed me to start this nonsense? I'm boring myself.

I can see the point made though, but I think other than left back, we're quite well covered everyplace. And Robertson will be near the top on both lists. I wouldn't want to see us without Rankin / Paton, so they need to be high. To play well we need Armstrong and Ciftci. Goalkeeper is exception. Both lists are:

1. Rankin
2. Robertson
3. Armstrong
4. Paton
5. Ciftci
6. GMS
7. Gunning
8. Souttar
9. Gauld
10. Watson

Armstrong, Robertson and Rankin make Spiers's Team of the Year, for sensible reasons.

Using their nice selector tool, I ended up with:

Forrester

Mackay, Reynolds, van Dijk, Robertson

Pawlett, Commons, Armstrong, Robson

McGinn, Mckay

With McInnes managing.

If nothing else, we should score a few goals.

And of course, Moshni as a selectable option for good comedy value.

Being utterly uninterested in any other of the teams, and generally ignorant of the players within them, I couldn't possibly pick a XI of the season.

Sounds like I've got a rival in Speirsyin my unparalleled admiration of Stu-Art-Arm-Strong. Hands off, Graham. I saw him first.

We might be doing well for young player nominations, but not in the manager shortlist.

Quote:

Celtic's Neil Lennon, Stuart McCall of Motherwell, Aberdeen's Derek McInnes and St Johnstone's Tommy Wright are vying for PFA Scotland's top manager.

Lennon, McInnes and Wright I can see. McCall, not so much, even if he's done ok in the league. It must be close between him and McNamara. Cup final, plaudits for the style of play and focus on youth.

Overall, I'd say McInnes.
