Do we have an old EPL thread? Couldn't find it.

And, I don't really care that much anyway. Life is too short.

However, I am compelled to state that the fuss over the mistaken identity red card in the Chelsea Arsenal game is a load of shit.

The initial, obvious reaction is to assume that the ref made a "they all look the same" mistake of barely closeted racism. However, having seen the incident - Gibbs was nearby when Ox-Cham did the handball, and it occurred in the area you would expect Gibbs to be. Also, the ref didn't see it and relied on his lino to make the decision. It was a mistake, of course, but an understandable one. Oh, and they do look a little bit the same, certainly compared to other pairs of Arsenal players that it could have been.

What really changed the game (not that Arsenal were going to get anything out of it anyway) was that the ball wasn't going in so it shouldn't have been a red card in the first place. So that was the big mistake, but even then it's not clear the ref, and certainly not the linesman, could have seen that the shot was going wide.

I'd also agree with the refereeing union that they can't be persuaded by players claiming "it was me" to save one of their teammates getting a card, as this could be open to abuse.

This is all quite a convenient fuss to help Wenger hide from the fact that he is showing no signs of sorting out a team that nobody has ever viewed as credible title challengers. Even when they were top, I was quite surprised to see how generous the odds were on them winning the EPL. Nobody thinks they can win it, yet Wenger regards a humiliating 6-0 loss as "an accident". So that's alright then.

I'd be whipping that new contract right off the table now and getting Klopp in right now.

Anyway, as you can see, I don't really care. It's a slow morning. Anyone want some filing done?

Although it seems I am basically doing filing on here, disentangling threads and putting them in their right place.

For the Arsenal mixup, if there's any doubt, video evidence time. The goal technology seems to work without complaint.

Comfortable win for City tonight, still think Man U will sneak 5th, although Everton looking strong.

Wonder if global warming is having an effect on Man U's season?

10 times they've lost at Home this season, yes 10 times.

Everton fans were perhaps wary of Martinez' appointment, but he's turned out to be a masterstroke. :hat:

I enjoyed Scholes's pundit appearance. I don't think anyone told him he's meant to be tactful when critising people.

I make it seven home defeats.

West Brom, Everton, Newcastle, Spurs, Liverpool and Man City in the league and Swansea in the FA Cup.

My bad, I misheard the radio this morning, it was their 10th loss in the league. Which in itself is fairly horrible form.

Ironically up to Saturday they had won the most points away from Home in the league (note this fact could be wrong as well....)

That Scholes interview is excellent, nailing it that Wenger really does have a blind spot when it comes to playing too many midfielders in the same team with a compete lack of defensive discipline.

Do wonder if the pressure and fly past planes are starting to concentrate support behind Moyes, and bolster the team a little. Decent performance so far against Bayern.

How Man U's standards have fallen after celebrating drawing 1-1 at home to Bayern (in an English champions versus German champions game). Would they be celebrating this score 4 or 5 years ago? Not a chance.

Bayern to easily win the return 2-0.

Munchen to cream them by at least 2 goals.

Well they've not made the quarters at all past 2 years, so at least on the up in some regard.

I think they might surprise in the return leg. They've still got a decent team, and with a solid game plan could sneak through.

Told a LFC fan at the start of the season there's no way they'll win the EPL. Now I think they will win it.

Wenger's had a lot less money to spend than his competitors plus he tries to entertain.
