Main thing is no bookings for united players. Probably only Rankin came close.
Apart from the three bookings that is! Wilson, Armstrong and Gunning.

Agreed though. I didn't see them all. Left the ground thinking there had been only one - and relieved it wasn't to one of the quartet on cards.

I thought the referee could have been worse. A lesser official (Kevin Clancy springs to mind) could have turned it into a yellow card fiesta - and we'd have lost folk for the final.

Which brings me to Michael Stewart who was a guess on Off The Ball. He said the ref "gave United nothing" - Stuart Cosgrove agreed because "Rangers were at home". He was a damn fine pundit on the show, well informed and offered accurate analysis in general. A bit of a surprise.

PS: As I had suspected, Rangers couldn't sell all their seats, though I take it the huge gap around the directors box was made up of SFA-allocated seats rather than a buffer zone to protect the Easdales from their own kin.

Well that was extremely tense. I thought we played quite horribly, unable to string together more than a couple of passes and looked a bit nervy whenever we had the ball. None of our creatives delivered good performances. Armstrong MoM for me, but Paton & Rankin not far behind.

Sevco got really close to us i the first half and compressed the midfield - once we played a few balls down the channels in the second half rather than always trying to play through them, they dropped off a bit and we did a little better.

The success of Sevco's pressing was greatly down to Madden's reffing. I'm not one to claim a conspiracy or bias generally, but the best that can be said for Madden's approach is that his reluctance to book anyone for heavy challenges favoured the home team. He seemed to miss several blatant tugs in key areas and tolerated some thumping fouls with nary a word. When he eventually booked someone, Wilson I think, it was for a nothingy aerial duel where he went over the top. Hard to see from my angle why that was even a foul.

Still, we're through and no suspensions.

Terrible game though, and the most tense I've felt at a match for a long time. Thank beelzebub Sevco don't have a finisher on the pitch.

Happy we're up against St Johnstone, as opposed to Aberdeen. We've not the best record against them, so it'll be a tough game, but we've the capability to beat them.

We should out number them in terms of support.

Important game this weekend. We could do with improving our record against them.

Thank you agent Daly.
Someone on EastFud has been nice enough to make my favourite moment into a gif. Namely: McCulloch tries to assault Rado and ends up getting kneed in the face by Daly.

Posted Image

Watch Daly and tell me he doesn't do that intentionally. He's a good lad.
Brilliant. Something from the Ivan Golac martial arts school perhaps. I also like Rado's wee look and check to avoid the flailing leg.

I've surprised myself by being disappointed we're not playing Aberdeen.

Oh?

[Checks BBC.]

Oh.

Yeah, it'll lose quite a lot as a spectacle, and probably in terms of (potential) quality too. And isn't this one of the eventualities Conan detailed earlier where we might not get into Europe? You know -- the ones I ignored because I assumed Aberdeen would get through?

Still. Aberdeen got beat. Ha.

I know! Ha!

Plus, I've a fair few Saintee pals who I'll likely meet pre-match for a small, dry sherry.
I didn't know they'd never reached the Scottish Cup final before.
I hope that doesn't get mentioned incessantly in the build-up to the game.
Talk about pressure...

Oh yeah, well reminded. That was irritating. Ref was constantly giving fouls against United players for going over the top of Rangers players who were ducking and backing in. To me, it's a foul the other direction. It's certainly more dangerous to the player who's going after the ball -- as shown by the one where Watson jumped, faceplanted and nearly broke his neck.

Just when you think Rangers fans can't descend any lower, they do. Goalkeeper's 11-year-old son targeted by them.

Great result, not so great performance, but no real surprise given the enormity of the occasion. We may have been favourites but it would be interesting to compare the wage bills on the pitch, they're not exactly Hearts at the moment in terms of relying on the U21s....

Similarly I'm slightly disappointed that Aberdeen didn't get through, I'm not sure we would have beaten them, but the occasion would have been that much enhanced and a reminder that with Celtic sleepwalking their way to the title, Utd and Aberdeen have really been the most improved/form teams this season.

Love that Ciftci gif, he's the type of player you'd bloody hate scoring against your team....

Oh and the decision not to even book Foster for his tackle on Armstrong in the corner beside the Utd fans was possibly the worst refereeing decision I've ever seen. It was easily a straight red, and the kind of 1970s era tackle that when unpunished gives a team the go ahead to kick opponents.

Bobby Madman gave them a free-kick for every tangerine balloon that came onto the pitch. That wasn't enough so in the 2nd half he gave them a free-kick for every black one aswell.
