There's apparently a Q&A thing on tonight, and Spence has tweeted McNamara has extended his contract. Doesn't say for how long, or if he's now half owned by the bank.
I think he's done very well since joining, in terms of getting the team playing well, getting the best out of our younger players and generally contributing to the positive atmosphere. A few rough patches, but patience seems to be working.
So good news I'd say.

According to the BBC, it's a one-year extension, taking him to 2017 (although it doesn't specify when in 2017). Good news indeed.

Our Finances
We are £2.1 million in debt to a group of Dundee United fans who would rather not be named. They get a small amount of interest for this and the timescale is over 6 years but as they are United fans the pressure is very much off. It did sound from what ST put across that the bank has been applying pressure with every bid coming in and this looked a massive relief to him. There's still a bit to go and you can tell he'd like us to be debt free, but more than that I think he wants to have some money to actually invest in other areas such as the Gussie Park project.
There was chat about the comparisons of where we are now and where we were and a lot of well-earned backslapping among the crowd and board alike.
The main thing about the bank was that they will only be entitled to a descending amount of profits from transfers until next summer. When I read the deal I somehow felt it was longer but next summer doesn't sound bad at all. If anything it gives us more reason not to sell until then and that was definitely the feeling among the panel.
Contracts
ST started things off in a positive manner by announcing that Jackie McNamara had signed a one-year extension to his contract. This was followed by some jibing at Jim Spence for tweeting as he was announcing this but I can't really mock as I was tweeting it myself also!
A young-lad asked if Dow will be getting an extension and Jackie hopes so. It sounds like JM has much more of a say in contract negotiations than I expected. This was even commented on by ST himself.
In the case of Gunning it sounds like he is away and i'm not entirely sure Jackie is that bothered. He said he has been off and on this season and if 'Gav' decides he wasn't to get around the table then we'll do that. Not the words of someone who is desperate to keep him. On the other hand he said GMS is in a similar position and come next summer we really need to try and get him to sign otherwise it's the dilemma of try and get as much as possible for him or let his contract run out (which is rarely an option in our situation).
Youth Team
A lot of questions were directed to Stevie, as were a lot of compliments. Very deserved in my view. With the BNB supremo Duthie saying he was the best in the country.
Questions were asked of who he was most proud of (Gauld) and which players he is looking forward to seeing next. There was discussion of how it might take a year or two to see some new faces as we have stolen most of them just now. When asked who he is really excited about there were nods towards Smith, Fraser and Coote but he really dreams of seeing the Souttar brothers play at the back together. I'd love to see that too.
First-Team
There wasn't too much about the first-team talked about. There was some anti-referee sentiment and JM mentioning how difficult it is to see the faces of the lads who aren't playing but appreciate how they are contributing to the team. He noted the fact he has played the most amount of players in the league. I didn't know that but now I do i'm not actually that surprised.
A man in dark glasses and a moustache had to be escorted from the premises after asking for Armstrong's phone number several times.
He made a comment that he felt Russell should have stayed and would have scored 20-plus goals in this team and got a bigger move. I have to agree. I've always been in the "Goodie is better than Russell" camp and maybe if both were in the ideal style of team that would be true but Russell would have been lethal in this team. Both footed and loves to sneak in behind.
Scott Allan was brought up when discussing if Goodie/Allan are used to discourage players to leave too early. Campbell said he doesn't really need to do that as most of the players know Allan. He also said Allan is a free-agent now and would love to see him back and on more than one occasion look uncomfortable when saying "there was obviously other reasons he left".

A man in dark glasses and a moustache had to be escorted from the premises after asking for Armstrong's phone number several times. So cruel. It was an innocent request to do with the law. And no need have been thrown down those steps so roughly.

Report that Blackpool wanted to speak to McNamara. Club say no, with a firm statement from manager.
- Quote:
-
Jackie McNamara said, "While flattered at the interest shown, I am very happy at Dundee United and wish to continue the job and build upon the foundations laid down over the last eighteen months or so. I view the approach as a positive endorsement of all the hard work undertaken by everyone at the Club in that period and have no plans to leave. All of my focus is on the forthcoming William Hill Scottish Cup final and preparations for the new season ahead."
Good to see there's interest. Blackpool seem to be a bit unstable though, not sure would be a good move, so thankfully said no.

I seem to recall that Blackpool was linked with Houston.
