I'm sure £300k per week plus input on transfer policy for 28 year old 2 year old Wayne Rooney will turn their fortunes round over the next 5 years.

Not good for English teams in Europe so far in CL.

Man U look especially flat, while Man City and Arsenal just looked a little bit worse than their opposition.

Although it may be a good thing for Man U going out of Europe, let them concentrate on the league and getting back in the CL...
Man U have almost no chance of getting into the Champions and Also Rans League next season. They need to win 4 more games than Liverpool in their last 11 games. Chances of that have got to be remote.

They'll do well to get into Europe at all, given that Sunderland may have one of the three UEFA places already, one will go to the FA cup winners, probably leaving 5th place as the only qualifying spot. They need to overhaul Spurs, who are two wins ahead of them, and hold off Everton who are level with a game in hand. They may be able to do that, but I suspect it'll be tough for them the way they are playing.
I think they'll get 5th at least. They're not playing well, but the squad is still better than Everton and Spurs and that may tell as the pressure mounts.

Everton haven't been in great form, while Spurs are about to play Chelsea away, Arsenal, Southampton and Liverpool away. In 5 matches, could be a lot closer.

Watched that Barca-Atletico match last night. Now that was a proper match. The intensity from both teams, the skill and desire - all superb.

Very disappointing to see Diego Costa go off injured - as Atletico's inspiration, losing him with what looked like a hamstring has got to hurt their heroic league campaign as well as their European Cup adventure.

Barcelona in a bit of bother for transfers, can't make transfers for 14 months Sure they'll manage to survive for a year or so.

Quote:

Spanish champions Barcelona have been given a 14-month transfer ban by Fifa for breaking rules on signing international players under 18.

The Catalan club cannot buy or sell players until the summer of 2015 after the world governing body imposed a transfer ban for the next two windows.

They have also been fined 450,000 Swiss Francs (£305,000).

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has been sanctioned by Fifa for the same breaches.

The RFEF has been given a fine of 500,000 Swiss Francs (£340,000) and told to "regularise its regulatory framework and existing system concerning the international transfer of minors in football" within a year.

Fifa rules state that international transfers are only permitted for players over the age of 18 - unless the player in question meets one of three qualifying criteria.

A Fifa investigation found that Barcelona and the RFEF were guilty of a "serious" infringement of the rules in relation to 10 players.

The investigation centred on several players aged under 18 who were registered and played for the club between 2009 and 2013. The players are thought to be from Brazil, Chile and Dundee.

Fifa's disciplinary committee said it sought to protect the best interests of young players, even if an international transfer might be beneficial to their football careers.

"On the basis of this analysis, the committee concluded that 'the interest in protecting the appropriate and healthy development of a minor as a whole must prevail over purely sporting interests'," said a Fifa statement.

Yep, if there was one club in the Europe you'd back to come through a ban on signing new players (meaning they have to rely on homegrown talent to supplement the 1st team squad) it would probably be Barça.

Good result for Chelsea. One of these games where it just felt like they were going to the the result they needed.

Finanical Fair play rules starting to be implemented.

Rich person invests in a club, spends lots of money on a club, paying a lot in transfer fees and wages.

UEFA thinks that's unfair. UEFA gets £50m 'fine'. For 9 clubs.

UEFA happy.
